TZ350 and the classic club

There was talk that the classic club will allow the TZs to run with them this year any news on this ? if yes does that mean we can do the pre TT Robin has decided to keep the 350 and is making it more comfortable to ride .Hope to go to our little circuit to try it out soon

Hi Annette, Little Chud asked the same recently and as far as I am aware there are still things to sort (i.e tyres but also the issue of F350 being rear exit which is currently not allowed in CRMC). May be worth contatcing the CRMC and asking if any further developments have occured? Try Ian Johnson janeian@sky.com. He is the eligibility chap and a top bloke. Sure he will be able to help.

RE: The Pre TT classic, I don't think it's likely TZ350's would be allowed looking at the regs:

Sidecars must comply with the ACU standing regulations. To be eligible, they must be of the ‘front exit’ type construction. Specific attention is drawn to engine eligibility, as follows.

i) 1st January 1945 to 31st December 1972 for four strokes

ii) 1st January 1945 to 31st December 1967 for two strokes

anyway, Annette, I doubt it will happen. the people iv'e spoken to at crmc seem to fall in to those that don't want 350 and those that do but are hamstrung by thse that don't.

I think we should forget it. To be fair as Tim says our bikes don't fall within the dates.

If you are after more races or as I suspect want to race at places like billown as we do then I suggest we should all get together and find some meetings we can all do. Perhaps in europe?

Or for more races we should perhaps get together with the post classics and do the EMRA champs.

If I remember correctly - Fred Brindley used to organise a few meetings at Chimay in the mid - late 80s - can't remember if there were any other circuits - but yes - that would be good - whether it could ever happen though is an entirely different thing....
The other solution is to get an overbored Super 6 - and hack the front of the chair for Front exit

John, I dont think it is just a case of those who do and those who don't. As I am sure you know there are a couple of quite major differences about how the bikes are ridden / used. The issues are complex and 2008 did not see them resolved. What did happen was an increase in grid sizes of current eligible machines so this has possibly caused a halt / adjurnment to the idea. It would be nice to see something sorted but it must have everyones best interests at heart.
1) Tyres - most 350 are on slicks I believe. This could be sorted I am told?
2) F350 outfits are rear exit design. CRMC rules stipulate no rear exit. This I am told also prevents some of the vintage competitors from racing with the CRMC.

As CRMC original rules state 'no rear exit chairs'. OK, that's how it was IIRC. But it did not stop ye odde crewe in early CRMC days resorting to handholds positioned in such a way so as to allow the passenger to lean over or above the sidecar wheel arch - surely that is not too far removed from rear exit?

I agree triplebrew whichever way it goes it has to be done in the best interested of everyone, but primarily the current club memebers I think. if they wan't 350's to race with them then they will sort it.

I perhaps over-simplified things but I am a northern monkey

we could find treaded tyres to do the job but if the bike has to be front loader then there's not much we can do. Having said that i've nearly un-loaded our kid a few times out the front does that qualify?

Off the top of my head, I would have thought 350's could run with the Post Classics, or be accommodated in some kind of class in Belgium; there were one or two rear exit machines in use last year (Vince Biggs most notably), and there were rounds at Gedinne, Mettet, Chimay and Jehonville. I'm sure the dates were posted in the thread of race dates last week, I'll link it up if so.

I am most concerned if its genuine vintage,no way can it be rear exit,
however I hate to say but certain vintage members have been seriously bending sidecar rules for years,as for 350 stinkwheels running with classics,why not try the continent,some continental clubs would run sidecar only meetings if they could guarantee large-ish grids.More chairs the merrier.
