Sorry Ian but that to my mind is not vintage racing - remotely. If that is the state of vintage racing then I am delighted that I have not seen any for a while. Unfortunately it looks as though the pot hunters are taking over yet another class of racing
It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!
"as for 350 stinkwheels running with classics, why not try the continent," I thought we were a sidecar family the F1 F2 and F350 boys and girls don't... as far as I know have any problems with ...old folk ...old chassis... and not so new engines being out with them.so WHY does the Classic club make such a big deal about eligibility when grids are poor . ..I don't have a problem with a NEW classic outfit being out on circuit however, what date of manufacture do they put on their entry forms..time has moved on , it's over 30 years since the TZ first started to race maybe it's time to lift the ..".before 67 for two stroke". I just thought it would be nice to be able to race at some classic meetings .don't get your knickers in a twist boys we won't be out with you
Well, I suppose that's one to take up with the CRMC eligibility people. If TZ350's are allowed in, then surely big TZ's, GS 1000's and eventually Krausers etc would have to be let in, killing off the classics as they did back then, personally I would not like to see this.
If there were sufficient numbers of Post Classics and F350 outfits though, which were prepared to run on treaded tyres, then maybe they could be run as a separate race at CRMC events, I think they run Post Classic solo races now.
Hey come on Annette, I think Stinkwheels is a great term
The Classic club in my view are trying to preserve what they view as 'classic' racing in a certain Era, and can't be blamed for that.
If the Classic era they are looking for is front exit BSA's and Triumphs from the late 60's to the late 70's what's wrong with that? If they end up with smaller grids and are happy with that, they are hiring the circuit and that's their perogative.
IF YOU'VE FORGOTTEN YOUR LOGIN EMAIL ME, WE ARE GOING BACK TO BEING LOGGED IN TO READ. steve@steveenglish.com subject:login and whatever details you remember
As I said Steve don't get your knickers in a twist I'm just glad to be a sidecar racer ...PS what date do new classics put down on their entry forms only joking xxx Annette
Sorry about Stinkwheels, did`nt mean to offend, but everybody knows strokers are the spawn of the devil and will never catch on,I have no axe to grind about the CRMC as I dont ride with them anyway rather cross the pond and get a lot more bang for my buck than here, roll on Chimay,
It would be good if all the people with a lovely, adorable stinkwheel posted and we saw how many there are... then ALL enter one meeting, and see what the result is... numbers help. If there's enough of you someone will bite.
Oh, the joy of the tinkle of disintegrating piston rattling down the exhaust pipe.......... the delight of metal corn flakes ....why do I love TZs....
Thats a good idea Helen & a true description I think racing in the classic class would be a little unfair
I can remember from 2002 when 19 outfits contested at least 75%of the 10 round championship 4 have been permanently exported to France 5 are in garages waiting to be used 2 laid up because of injury 2 have changed hands and 2 seem to have vanished from the face of the earth
It appears that there were three new outfits from last year and I can probably think of 4 or 5 more that have been out in the last 10 years or so there are undoubtably more stored away somewhere
So thats over 20 or more that still exist in some form or other
there's no subject that'll get them stired up on here like 350s in CRMC!! oh apart from 500 strokers in F2
your right Paul. Where have all the stinkwheelers gone??
I know of about 12-14 some of which do come out but like you say there must be loads out there, sat in sheds. Why don't those who have em ride em, or if they can't afford to or are injured/ill, loan/hire them out.
I wouldn't mind a classic but couldn't afford to top the oil up every 2 mins
jc
The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight.
But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night.
That's gonna be even more of a problem - the way things are looking ?
I wouldn't mind a classic but couldn't afford to top the oil up every 2 mins
Been there - had 500 & 650 trumpets back in the day... - much joy with Rocker covers, Primary chains, Magneto, and so on - also A65 - must say that was better though...
2 strokes are the future...

Had to laugh at this I heard somewhere... "You can't polish a Turd"
Oh Dear
I had not included Gordon in my calculations
I dont think there are many that can afford to go racing as Gordon said its gong to get worse I rekon it costs £300 to have a day out without any mishaps
Didnt someone offer to put up a Cup or something for a 350 class why not add a cash prize for one of the competitors who complete practice and a few laps in each race where there are say 15 or more entries
I actually remember front exit 350 windles in the mid 80's, I might be wrong but I seem to remember Pat's late husband Mick driving one. Jimmy Webb also had one around 1987, not exactly classic I know.
I stopped racing in 1999 when 2 strokes (stinkwheels) were replaced by the DIESELS.
I'm not a huge fan of classic racing but I must admit I love the smell of Castrol R being burnt by a stinkwheel.
Hello everybody. Like Bob, I used to race Classics when they weren't classics, in fact we still give an original BSA an airing from time to time (yes it still has the original power unit, gearbox and chassis before anyone mentions the NMM). Have I missed something?
