Steve, I actually come from London Colney, we lived on High Street, opposite where the Yamaha dealers is now.

I used to spend a lot of time down there at CJB Pipelines place. Mr. Lowman's office looked out onto Arsenal's training ground and we would spend most of the afternoon watching the team work out.
Split .. the arsenal training ground.. isn't that Colney Heath not London Colney? Down by the Bell Pub - where the Bell MCC and VMCC used to meet up? Just off the dogbone roundabout on the A414?

At the risk of this getting really parochial.............isn't that now a McDonalds?
Another bit of Colney trivia...........My Mum and Dad both used to work at John Dales (latterly Alcan), where all of the alloy castings for Vincent were made.
Ah, THAT Bell Yes, that's now McD's at the bottom of the A1081 at J22 next to the savacentre.
I was thinking of the other one that IS in Colney Heath, I think the ABC club used to meet at that one too, or did I dream it? I think we're heading to drivel soon
