Oh, dear, dear... well...no reply so far to my enquiry to the Government Health people here... think I know the answer already though.
Tell Nicky she will just have to hurry up and have it early. I'll get in some baby stuff and she can just run for the boat with it under her arm...

isnt that cheating....only 2 on a sidecar ;) ....jokes on hold...its a real issue...it will cause a lot of issues for our family...my wife will be 350 miles away and over seas from me at the tt and she will have to hope im ok and deal with a birth on her own...plus our daughter whom is 9 will be better where????if we are all together its all easier...all my wifes doing is having a baby...amy one would think im trying to WIN the iom tt races  ....she would be happy to have the baby in a cravan with a mid wife rather than be at home by her self....... wifes a great lass and we have put all our time and money into doing the tt this year...yes its bad timing to have a baby but how where we to know that the national health would be pulled from the iom....i cant believe that you cant have a baby in any country and have to pay...its a natural thing......we are now under extreme pressure to find a solution to this....if the tt as new comers wasnt bad enough

Seriously, I just don't know the answer. I don't think any midwife would be willing to take the chance, when she doesn't know your wife and knowing you have no financial back-up if something went wrong. If it wasn't for the UK government ending the reciprocal health agreement, there would be no problem. Andy and Kirsten Laidlow's first was born here in TT week. Other than being induced before you leave to make sure it has arrived, I haven't an ideas at all.

yes we have and they cant help.......they just advise for her to stay at home.......not exactly the best place for her or me.....i will be 350 miles away and over seas (pluss then racing at the tt)....both her and i are stuck now between the tt and the baby.......we didnt plan it very well i do agree, but we didnt mind being at the iom tt when it was due....we also didnt know that this was going to happen with the iom and the uk........my wifes a great lass and she is happy to be in a caravan at 9 months due if it means that we can be together......both the tt and the baby are important......all she needs is a '''midwife and some gas'''....her words not mine....

What a problem you face ! As I understand it travellers to the IOM have to obtain travel Insurance, and medical cover in case of accident or illness. What happens in the case of a racing accident ? I ask this because all the insurance companys I have dealt with have refused to give me cover if I competed in dangerous sports, or past times.

Does the entry into the TT races include medical/accident insurance for the competitors which will cover the full cost of any treatment required on the Island should they be injured ? If not which insurance company will, and what are the likely premiums.

Perhaps I am missing the point here, but it needs clarifying

eddy we are covered by the acu if we race at the iom.....but only during the race/practice...if you fell over in the padock(not that im saying your too old to walk safely ;) )or down in douglas and needed surgery for an injury....you will need your own medical cover as it will not be covered by the acu....my wife as she is due with in 8 weeks of our journey cant get medical cover...we also did not know that at the time that the uk goverment and the iom will go their seperate way with medical cover....my issue is a one of a kind problem and is most probably not as common.....my wife has been late for the other 3 and never had an issue when giving birth, but there is always an ecption.....

Matt is correct in his analysis of the situation. Up till the 1st April this year, it makes no difference whether you live here or in the UK, all NHS services are freely available to all.
After that date, neither Manx residents visiting UK (with some exceptions) nor UK residents coming here will be covered except in emergency.
(However, what has always been the case is that, either way round, you should have had travel insurance to cover repatriation... getting home injured or ill can cost a packet.)
Anyway, competitors are fully covered for all treatment and repatriation in the event of a racing accident. However, neither they nor their family and friends are covered, and this is where the situation we have arises.
There is no way the Health people will quote a price, because no-one knows what will happen... it's highly unlikely there will be any complications, but if there were, the costs would obviously spiral, and the Manx Government would not be willing to be saddled with that possibility. Other situations can be passed off as unexpected, but not a baby due while the Mum is here.
Unless someone has a credit card with no limit and is willing for Matt and his wife to use it....
