How long til someone becomes an 'inactive' user?

Unread post by steve-e »

I want to get the forum users pruned down a bit before the next major software overhaul, most forums delete users who have not been active for a while but I can't decide how long to set it for. At the moment it's just over a year but that still leaves us with over 2000 members. Would 9 months be ok? In the FAQ it mentions that accounts are generally considered dormant after 6 months, seems a bit short to me that.
What do you think? The lesser members we have the more chance of finding the right member in the member lists (there were quite a few double and in some cases triple entries when I did the year prune earlier where people forget their log in and just set up another account) but more importantly, the easier it will be when it comes to synchronising users on here with users on the main site.. part one of the overhaul :D

When you inactive user do you mean not logged on, or not posted?

We're leaning towards 6 months, 40% of the vote. That's fine by me, it means less people for the system to back up and synchronise
I can get on with that later, once i find out what the script path is (or what A script path is first :P - it's not where I thought it was )

I think it should be a year, on the basis they may only log in annually to find out about the TT (or any other annual event).
