I got to watch this young chap ( at the time) during various inter club 'Match races' at circuits up and down the country. The format was that teams of solos and sidecars from England,Scotland and the IOM would be invited to race at a number of venues ,resulting in an over all winning team for each class.
As much help as possible was on offer to persuade teams to compete such as discounted entry fees and and help with travel costs etc...... Most events were run at a loss to accommodate such an idea other than just straight races we have today...
I got to know about Alan Budge and could see he was a very capable Scottish lad who showed an aggressive yet controlled ability previously seen in the likes of 'Jock Taylor'. I don't think comparing him in the same way was unfair all he needed was lots of support and guidence........
I saw him pick up a Trophy from a Waterloo club dinner for the 93 season, ( it was suggested then that he could be the next ( JT) given the backing he desereved ) ,,,, I have never seen the guy in action since,,,,,,
Regards
Fritz,,,,,,
The obvious question is 'Where is he Now '?

Sam Hamilton gave Alan quite a bit of backing, he rode Sams bikes with George Hamilton as passenger for a few years. Last time I saw Budgie was at Knochill spectating in 2005. He was concentrating on his taxi business.

If you are on Facebook you'll find him there. I've told him to look on here. He's well, and as mad as ever!
