Florian Camathias and Alfred Herzig on Gilera at the Dutch TT 1964 (as noted on Autosport forum I think)

Does anyone know how Florian Camathias was able to wangle a 4 cylinder Gilera engine from the Gilera factory please?

Why Ian? Getting ideas are we :?: 8-) I believe that Flo sold the idea to Il Capo on the basis that Gilera had never won a Sidecar Championship and that he felt that their motor could have an edge over the all dominant Munich twins. Great pity that it did not work out in the end.

Thanks Bob, I suppose him getting that engine back then would be the equivalent of Dave M, John H or etc getting Rossi's engine.

According to an article in 'Classic racer' a few years back by Raymond Ainscoe, Camathias' wife who was fluent in Italian did the negotiations. Plus there were the engines available from Geoff Duke's 'Scuderia Duke' team from the 1963 classics.
