Keith Cousins?

Unread post by steve-e »

Keith Cousins? I had an email the other day asking what happened to him. I'm told he had a crash at Cadwell in the early 80's and after that didn't race again.
What happened?

I think Keith had the off in 1982, but would stand corrected. Approaching Park Corner Steve Abbott passed us on the left and Keith passed us on the right at the same time. Keith found himself in a position where he could either collide with Steve or take to the grass, the latter ensued and Keith lost control. My last sighting of Keith was a photo in a paper/magazine a couple of years later at Silverstone, the Northants Police Motorcyclists were doing something on track and Keith started the event.
Anyhow since 1957

it was me that sent the email to Steve - the crash was in April 1984, i remember it being a really cold day and have pictures in my scrapbook of snow falling during the MCN Masters race.

Thanks for the info Merv, do you recall if Keith was paralysed at all? I remember there being very little in the press at the time and always wondered what the extent of his back injuries were and if he made a full recovery.

thanks

Keith spent time in Northampton hospital but made a full recovery. He was passengered that day by my great mate Phil Hookham who vividly remembers doing the 100mph walk.
It was indeed a case of Abbo & them wanting the same piece of track & Abbo won the day whilst Keith went into the concrete bunker which I think was since removed.
Haven't heard of Keith for many years but Phil is alive & well & when I can drag him along still comes to some meetings both here & abroad.

thanks for all the info chaps - glad to hear all is well with Keith and Phil, with a win in the Euro Championship, a podium at the TT, and countless British wins, they were definitely destined to go all the way

I went to visit Keith a few times in Northants hospital after the accident. Looked a bit of a mess with frames supporting his neck and back and bolts in horrible places.
Made a full recovery and went back to his engineering business.
I was fortunate to obtain some sponsorship from him for the Superkart Grand Prix at Silverstone in the mid 90's.
Unfortunately we have lost touch over the last 15 years.
