DADS BMW ,RESTORED , JOB DONE , FINNISHED !!

Unread post by jdutton »

Hi, one year after we brought back dads bmw it is all done. It was a lot worse than we ever realised but we got there in the end and re fitted many original parts that dad had used on the bike in 1972, we have also put it back to his colours although many people have said we should have painted it in enders red and white ! please let me know what you think !

I have also found out most of the bikes history, roger dutton used it in 1972 and 73 ,8th and 6th and had good grand prix results including pole possition at hockenhiem, jonh wright bailey used it in 1970 and 71 at the tt with good results , stuart applegate used it in 1969 at the tt and grand prixs, Maurice Tombs had a sixth place in 1968. so far we dont know who had it before that , we know that it was built by rob north about 1965/66,

The only problem now is what to do with it, it would be nice if they had a parade of old bikes at the festival of sidecars at mallory but i went last year to have a look and they dont . We cant even find anywhere to try it . Any suggestions ? thanks jolian dutton

The TR3OC are running there BEEZUMPH weekend at Anglesey on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July. They run two sidecar sessions per day and the cost is £35 a day plus day memebrship. You only need a driving liecence.

We have ridden our bike at the Beezumph rally for thr last 4 years. There are usually around 12 sidecars out on track, with a selection of classic racing, modern road bikes and the F1 rotary norton.

It is a great fun weekend , with a live band on the Saturday night.

Details at http://tr3oc.co.uk/?page_id=755

Im sure ud have a brilliant time if u decide to go.

Also if u fancied a trip acrosst the water, there is a meeting at Croix in France where u can parade a sidecar. You get two sessions a day and there is a huge selection of Classic and Post classic sidecars that go.

We have been the last two years and it is great fun. I think it costs around 120 euro's for the weekend.

Congrats on a superb restoration :notworthy: Please, please leave the colours as they are - Ender'es paintjob is great but that is Klaus not John Dutton 8-)
It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

hi Jolian Its great to see your dads outfit back to pristene condition. Why not come up to East Fortune and parade it there. The Bob Mac meeting is great with a parade both Sat/Sun for a total of £40. Iam entering again on John Macaskills BM. I know its a long way but there are lots of lads from the south make the pilgriage every year and you will not be dissappointed. If you are interested let me know.

Hi Dave, where is east fortune, sound like the other side of the world !
Trouble is I have never rode a sidecar, I need somewhere quiet to have a go first .
Sounds like there is more places that I thought to take it out.
