Re: Are balls the future?
From past experience beware the guy holding the bag! The fairest way is for the holder to grasp the top edge of said bag firmly in both hands holding it open, just make sure that there is not one hand 'supporting' the bottom of that bag
I say this because at one stage in CRMC it was incredible how often a certain crew invariably drew front row way beyond all laws of probability ...

It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

A cynical word of advice, Bob. Am sure Ian wouldn't let any hand support the bottom of his ball bag.

Maybe Ian could let his passenger hold the ball bag for him and then if the result isn't the desired one he could spank the monkey!!!

It's simple. Get a bingo ball machine.

Re: Are balls the future?
Bob's right, we used that method up here but it was clothes pegs in the bag. Some would take a handfull out and put back the ones they didn't like. Some would pick one and if they didn't like it put it back and have another go. It needs to be someone with authority either holding the bag or overseeing what goes on and be able to dish out instant "back of the grid" penalties to obvious cheats.

How about filling the bag with numbered mouse traps, that should ensure only one is taken.
A job for passengers obviously! Only kidding, only kidding. They are great, I think every sidecar should have one!

Mouse traps, love it
IIRC it was usually the passenger that picked the grid slot so that the driver could blame him/her if it was a bad one

Re: Are balls the future?
So is anyone willing to hold Ian's ball bag to ensure grid positions are above board.....

Re: Are balls the future?
As many of you know I used to race grasstrack sidecar & solo. They used to have clothes pegs on a clip board with all grid numbers on reverse side so the racer was just presented with a row of pegs. Easy to pick with race gloves on, simple and worked well? Grabbing ball sacks in the pit box would be fine for the lady racers but not for me thank you
