Hi
it was a try to bring changes into the scene. Bösiger raced without points one year in the world championship.
The rule says, the foot has to be behind the knee.

Year? Between 97-2000 can't remember if I was on with Wilf or Clive stirratt. Webbo raced in same team with the usual layout.

Seems a silly rule to me. My road bike has feet in front of knees.

It was a modified LCR so was probably converted back to the usual layout afterwards, I expect Webbo would know.

I reckon that we could get away with something like that on the Hillclimbing scene :o

Not with you on this one, Bob. What next a steering wheel, drop the passenger and add another wheel and what have we, one of those other thingys that would bore the a**e of you. No it had to be kept with some semblance of what it started out as, a motorbike and sidecar...!!!

Precisely Bill! Keep the bars etc and if necessary create a new class such as F1 A or some such. Happened with B2A, B2B etc ere someone in an ivory tower decided that innovation should be stopped.

I agree with you, I think it could have led too far away, but I think badly worded regulation. The slipper was surprisingly simple under the fairing from what I remember.

This is definitely a motorcycle and sidecar here, but his knees are behind his feet. So if sidecar racing had caught on earlier in the US than here, would we all be riding FF? (*1)
Of course this all happened in cycling first, banning feet forward machines (in that case I think it was bad sportsmanship)(*2)

And some other interesting reading on the bicycle side of things linked in the article *2 above (i'd love a recumbent)

The guy that had it had used it for sprints etc if i'm right, i think he had had an accident or couldn't kneel in it so converted it.
He had been sold it as a 1990 chassis, but it was a 1985 as it was our old bike as well as being Binghams, Dixons etc
Im sure there is a lot of people out there wanting to race F1 but cant due to injury and the riding position and this might be the only option for them, surely sitting like this will loose a lot of front end grip though?

If these had been allowed I would never have stopped racing. 8-)
