CRMC Sidecar Newcomers Award

Unread post by NickR »

Following a (reasonably sober) discussion with Ian Johnson at the Dinner/Dance, we would like to initiate a Sidecar Newcomers award.
Our idea is that any existing teams that want to donate £10.00 into a kitty, and at the end of the season those teams who have donated get to vote who should receive the award.
In this way, a new team will have their efforts recognised by their peers.

I think “Newcomer” should be any team where both Driver and Passengers are novices, and are new to the CRMC. (If anybody think differently, let me know)

Depending upon how much money is raised (i.e. how many teams cough up) we could either present just a trophy, or a trophy plus cash.

If anyone wants to contribute, can you please get in touch with either Shelli or myself.

Please let us know if you have any further ideas, or suggestions.

Thanks
Nick

Maybe you should allow existing members that switch from 2 to 3 wheels?

I'm sure Dave and I could find a fiver each for the pot.

Nice idea Nick but what happens if there are no newcomers one season or even only one, it would then be a foregone conclusion!!!
I have a fantastic trophy that is in remembrance of a good friend and a great racer that I would love to present each year but am struggling with the best reason to base the award, any ideas anyone?

Humble suggestion by a complete (and distant) outsider:

How about loosening up your definition of newcomer to something like "the person or team in their first season of sidecar racing with CMRC that best xxxxx" (you will need to fill that last bit in). That way you open it up to a new driver or passenger or driver & passenger or mechanic or energetic volunteer etc. Basically whoever stands out in the minds of the voters at the end of the year for having contributed the most xxxxx to your club in their first year.

Since we've already got two newcomers at Pembrey this year, it won't be a problem.

As for future years, I guess we'll have to wait and see how it pans out.

Well I guess the recipient's will be very happy with their award.

I think this is a great idea. I had the general Newcomers award in 2009 (Cathcart trophy, I think it was called???) which was a nice momento to have after a hectic season.
Never trust anything that doesnt stand up by itself!
