Newcomers Trophy
Just checking, who got the sidecar newcomers trophy? I thought it was David Atkinson/Phil Knapton but the results show Mark and Lee Saunders.

Re: Newcomers Trophy
I have been in contact with Paul Phillips about this and I am awaiting a reply.
Mark and and Lee were told they were best new comers on the Monday night presentation but on Wednesday night presentation it was given to Dave and Phil.
As I understand the TT regs state Peter Chapman Trophy
To the newcomer sidecar driver with the highest placed finish in any sidecar race during the meeting. The driver never having started or qualified to start in a sidecar race on the TT course prior to the meeting, irrelevant of the experience of the passenger.
correct me if I am wrong but I am sure that Dave although had not raced at the TT had qualified to race at the TT in 2009.
The awarding of this trophy needs to be sorted as this seems to happen most years and is not fair on all involved.

Re: Newcomers Trophy
You're classed as a newcomer if you haven't qualified or raced before - Dave had qualified in 2009 so shouldn't have been eligible this time around. However....Carl Fenwick and Keir Pedley practiced and qualified with a lap of 98.786mph in 2010 before Keir fell out the chair at May Hill, yet Carl still got the Newcomers trophy in 2011.

Re: Newcomers Trophy
I can shed some more light on this
It was only Phil that could qualify as best newcomer passenger according to the regs. However the reason that Dave got awarded it was that in 2010 Carl Fenwick and Keir Pedley qualified but unfortunately later in the week Keir had an off and broke his ankle and therefore Carl couldn't race. In 2011 however, Carl returned with Mark Sayers and won best Newcomer, therefore the prescidence has been set
I don't know whether there were any previous occurrences of this
Best wishes
Kelly

Re: Newcomers Trophy
You beat me to it Phil
PS. I am guessing people know since the introduction of the Dave Wells Trophy it has been split with an award for Best Newcomer Passenger (Chaz Richardson) and Best Newcomer Driver

Re: Newcomers Trophy
Phil W is quite right,on the basis of last year, Dave and Phil were the winners this year. On what you say, Lisa, if the regs say should not have 'raced or qualified before' then Mark and Lee were this year's winners and somebody other than Carl and Mark should have won last year. Phil Knapton mentioned this to me after the Saturday race and I first mentioned, then wrote the details out the next day, for Simon Crellin, the official TT Press Officer. Would think either Simon or Paul Phillips will have decided. I don't know what the regs say, or whether they've changed from one year to the next but Dave in 2009 and Carl in 2010 BOTH practised, qualified, crashed and didn't take part in either race.

Re: Newcomers Trophy
Me and nige won it in 2009 and i remember asking if there was an annual trophy to be told no . Low and behold lloyd was cleaning it this year so that team fenwick could use it for photos so i actually managed to get a photo with it
It is frustrating when it appears that youve won something and then gets taken away .It sounds like it needs the rules and regs if there are any making available and scrutinising before the awards ...

It is horrible Dean, and does need sorting, it is not fair on all involved.
It is not the teams fault it the organisers, for not reading there own regs where it clearly states who is eligible for each award.

I think the organisers should just ask Headmaster Newton.

Quite amazing that it seems to be every year. I remember this getting messy clearly from previous years.
