Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
Neither parents nor grandparents raced in any way but two of dad's brothers competed in scrambles in the late 40s and 50s, one with a degree of success as he was twice selected for the GB MotoCross des Nations team.
It is true about the sidecar family - you can stop racing but you can never, ever leave!

I'm not a racer but my dad is. However, I've been scrutineering long before he took up racing!

Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
My Grandfather was in the Army Motorcycle Display Team when it was first set up.
He broke his leg whilst trying to impress my Nan (before she had even agreed to go out with him) doing a single leg stand up wheelie under the railway bridge at Earlsfield in South London. Their first date was in the Womens Voluntary Services Cafe at St Georges Hospital 2 days later!
Probably explains a lot about my own propensity for crashing.......

But, Fitz, at least he did it
He was infinitely better than all of the trackside and armchair pundits whose bravery extends no further than that

Actually I am being a bit harsh, I don't think he was that bad, just never made the Southern100 or TT. Always made me feel good that I had one over him

Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
my dad rode triumphs and bsa twins in the fifties and early sixties, and had an outfit on the road, till my mum fell pregnant with my brother and coudlnt get in the chair!
She described the winchester bypass as a mass of blurs plus sparks from the footrests, on the solos.
My uncle raced triumphs till he had a big crash. and i started cos i couldnt go fast enough on the road and coudlnt fly a hurricane.

Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
I suspect my dad always wanted to race, but the nearest he came was being navigator (co-driver in modern terminology) to my uncle Mike's rally driving. I believe they were pretty good, but having families got in the way and they stopped.
My dad used to cart us kids off to watch various types of racing, and I remember being terrified of the toilets at Brands Hatch! I must have been about 5, and they were just holes above pits, and I thought that I would fall through!
He would have been proud of me, I'm sure.

Shared my hillclimb car with my father at Shesley in 91 or 92.
Never seen him grin so much. He came back down after one run and said he nearly "gobbed it" at botton ess.
Good times.Grandmother, great uncle (bikes) and great grandfather all raced between the wars.

Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
My parents didn't race and don't like bikes due to my Dad having a footrest through his ankle in 1957
Imagine their horror when I spent the compensation I got from a bike accident on my 1st sidecar

Re: Did your parents race? Either of them?
My Dad did a handful of bike races when he was a young man, my Uncle did alright at bike racing and did quite well at the TT, his son (my cousin) raced at the TT too and his brother (my other cousin) did some sidecar passengering at club level, two cousins on the other side of the family raced Motocross.
