IanW,I have read your Teck Talk,latent heat,liners,air/fuel ratios re petrol/methonol.piston bore clearance equates more power????etc.,dont baffle people with science just drill the Main Jet 1/8 inch, and remove the needle :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: The photo of Konig engine I have seen is still in a Boat.

Ian. You have summed Howard's dilemma up well.

Let's hope he get's the go ahead to race with the CRMC. Personally I support him.

We had a Suzuki TR750 Triple racing with us last year.

The bike was fast and ridden hard, but it didn't clear off and win everything. Neither will Howard's Konig.

Isn't it the case that most people in the Classic Club race replica machines?
New engines,new chassis?
Many "Classic " machines are younger that F1 and F2 machines that are racing.
If the Club changed its name to the "Replica and Classic Racing Club" and have two classes in each event it could mean that the spirit of invention that flourished before F1 and F2 classes came about would be revived.
Worth a try?
Just a thought.

Would a powerful boat engine in a classic outfit with narrow tyres not be self regulating and difficult to ride ?

The big fourstroke engine in a short F2 looked as if it were a problem for most

If something similar was run in the era concerned what could be the valid reasons for excluding it ?

As Smithy say's how many of the bikes racing now are eligable.I'm not that clued up on thing's (only a passenger), but how many 11 & 1200cc BMW's and Imp's ran in the early day's.Also was titainium, sticky tyres, fancy brake pad's,electronic sparks, Mikuni carbs and carbon fibre about. Someone will most likely shoot me down in flames, but were the Talbot? engine casing's that the Imp's now use about in the day.
For crying out loud let Howard race the bike it will make a change to have something different on the grid instead of just BMW's and Imp's and if he does win so what it's only for fun! or it used to be. Perhpas the rules have changed.
If they have changed Howard, take it to Belgium and the vintage club where you will be more than welcome. Forgot the best of the lot, the Bob Mac.
It would be a nice Crimbo present for Howard if Mr Eligability sent him the answer.

I think the Classic club have been quite relieved to see this thread change direction so many times, may be they are hoping that it will eventually go away.
Their incompetency is mind blowing, a straight answer is all that is needed.
Given the Motorcycle News article from 1967 which states A KONNIG ENGINE WAS FITTED INTO A SIDECAR CHASSIS & RACED.
Why o why can they not come up with a simple decision?
This is not about the eligibility of the KONNY engine, that is a separate issue, this is about the right of an ORIGINAL, period engine to be allowed to race within the Classic Club Regulations.
I hope sidecar bloke will come along & answer a few questions, but then again we have no right to question his or his committees decisions.
Are Eligibility issues left to the sole discretion of the Eligibility secretary, or are they a Committee decision?
I personally cant see a draconian body like the Classic Club coming on here & explaining themselves.
I think it's time for the Committee to raise their heads out of the sand & rectify the issue once & for all.
But then again, Howard could go out & buy a Modern BMW engine, stick it in an outfit & the Classic Club would welcome him with open arms!

Just a quick response - I may give a longer one later but there is probably little point, although people seem to be able to write profusely, their reading skills seem limited.

Facts:

Howard applied three years ago for eligibility. I offered him Period 4 along with the Suzuki Kettle - he was NOT interested. I then granted temporary eligibility for twelve months - for whatever reason he never showed.

After the temporary eligibility ran out did he contact me - no.

This thread is on a forum - it's not connected to the Classic club or any club. If you wanted to get a loan from a bank would you contact the bank or slag off the bank on a forum and wait for a response. If you wanted to get a mortgage - well you get my drift.

Fact:

I haven't received any communication from Howard since the initial discussions. If I was contacted and Howard didn't like my answer we could then discuss the eligibility at committee level - Howard could be there to argue his case. The club has rules regarding eligibility and how it conducts itself - they're on the club website for all to read.

What is being discussed here is making one man's Konig eligible - that's not how it works. If the Konig is made eligible, it is eligible for all to use and it's a very short step from Kim Newcombe's Konig to the Konny, but a huge leap from a picture of a boat engine to a Konny.

The biggest fact of all:

As has been said before the classic sidecar grid has been full, with reserves, all year - that's full of people who enjoy racing Classic Club eligible sidecars. If you have a Classic Club eligible outfit come and join us - you are more than welcome. If you have a Post Classic sidecar then contact Tony Wheatley who is busting for you to join him.

As someone once said "let sport be the winner" - but to do this we must all behave as sportsmen. So enough of the slagging off please.

All we want to do really is ride our bikes !!!

I don't want get involved in the argument side of all this, as you can do that forever, but looking at the bigger picture here, am I not right in thinking that the real issue here is that there is only one Sidecar race (Class) at Classic Club meetings, even though, according to reports, the entries are busting at the seams !
If this is so, and referring back to my post of what now seems light years ago on page 3 (quoted below), 'IF' the Classic Club felt a bit more disposed towards Sidecars and give us a second race, many of the problems would be solved, especially if we adopted the European class format:

Absolutely right Wal. There are four sidecar classes in the club but only one race.

But again, looking at the bigger picture. The club can't give the sidecars an extra race because pretty much every race over each day is split class and everybody wants their own race. There are very big arguments going on throughout the classes.

My personal view is that there are too many classes and too many races on each day. There is also an issue with the already short races laps being cut when there is an incident.
