Which fuel pump?
I keep wrecking fuel pumps. I've got through two Pierburg pumps this year. They haven't been run dry as far as I know.
So what pumps do you use and which ones are reliable and cheap?

Re: Which fuel pump?
Don't think its the pumps that are the problem, more like the fuel you are using, also drain system dry between meetings that will also help.

Do you have a filter between tank and pump?

Re: Which fuel pump?
I'm using Vpower fuel with an inline filter between the tank and the pump.
I've never drained the fuel between meetings though.

Re: Which fuel pump?
How often are you changing the filter? Are you sucking in air on the inlet side, I.e. running it dry? I had this problem, changed to screw connector instead of bayonet and jubilee clip. Too fine inlet filter? Too powerful a flow rate?
So many questions!

Steve

Re: Which fuel pump?
Had Pierburg pumps on for year . That and bosch pumps . Id suggest there maybe something not quite right with your syatem possibly if youve knackered 2 . And ive never drained fuel out either . Could understand if it was methanol or something
but pump fuel wont hurt it

Dream as if youll live forever and live as if youll die tomorrow.... Happy days

Re: Which fuel pump?
Joe uses his own home made system, limiting the return flow... That could work too...Metalface. wrote: What regulator do you use?

Re: Which fuel pump?
Theres a lot more pressure with a fuel injection system Marc. Simon you seem to have a system that most use. We certainly have something similar and have had no problems and we use Sytec pump which some people have had bother with. Our pump runs off the ECU would that make any difference ?

Re: Which fuel pump?
Our pump was an internal one, we changed this as we changed the brakes and needed a new fuel tank, so we went for the pump and regulator I linked above.
This is how we have it setup;
We did have a few problems with fuel starvation at the beginning of the season, but this is because we origionally had the return of the regulator going between the filter and pump, instead of back into the tank.
We still get this occasionally, but we believe this is due to surge when we have low fuel.
We wired the new fuel pump to the original wires that ran the old fuel pump.
This is how we have it setup;
Code: Select all
Tank --- Filter ---- Pump -----------Throttle Bodies
| |
| |
| |
|-------------------------- Regulator
We still get this occasionally, but we believe this is due to surge when we have low fuel.
We wired the new fuel pump to the original wires that ran the old fuel pump.
