Re: RGB Puma Weslake.

Hi Bill, the engine would eat Quaife gear clusters so Pete Davies at Puma Engineering suggested making a gearbox using a Harley Davidson racing cluster. So I bought an Andrews Gears close ratio racing cluster. The gears & shafts being a lot larger than the AMC / Quaife items & Pete recon'd that the gears would stand up to the power pulses better than the Quaife one's. The Andrews gears & shafts run in needle roller bearings unlike the Quaife one's running in bronze bushes.
Pete then set about machining me a gearbox case out of a billet of Aluminum. He machined it to have the same mounting measurements as a Norton AMC box. He had to cut the length of the mainshaft & make an adapter to suit the Triumph 4 spring clutch hub.
I make it all sound so simple but then Pete is the best Engineer I have ever had the privilege to meet. You should see the Top Fuel Dragster engines he makes. Billet crankcases machined from a block of Aluminum measuring 900mm x 400mm x 400mm, or the Top Fuel crankshafts he makes from a lump of billet steel round bar, or the billet cylinder heads.
Over the years he had also machined me a Weslake head ( Puma ) out of a billet & also a drive side crankcase from a billet.
The head he machined, 20 years ago, he fitted Suzuki stainless steel valves in, I was the first to use these, now a day's I think the majority of riders using Weslake / Nourish engines run them, or they should do!

Re: RGB Puma Weslake.
Hi! Ian, thanks for your most elaborate reply....I didn't think it could be any old ordinary gearbox
considering the work it had to do, but then I didn't realize your resourcefulness, albeit through
evolution or revolution....What a state of the art, '70's style machine, you have created....I'd love
to see it race with the CRMC or better still, with all that torque, compete with F2s...thanks for your
fascinating reply...Bill L. Ps My first outfit in 1971 was the original old Triumph Rickman conversion,
lightyears from your creation...
