Starting off in F2

Unread post by ste0070 »

First of all hello to all from a site newbie, me and my brother are looking at entering into the world of sidecar so any advice greatly taken.
My brother use to passenger some years ago and we are now looking at getting started, what we're not sure about is whether F2 is the starting point or whether you can go straight into F1 as a novice driver/passenger, I've asked ACU who said it's down to the clubs but we thought you had to progress.

Thanks in advance, Scott

Hi Scott and welcome,

There are no rules saying that you have to have raced an F2 before you race an F1. You can start on an F1 if you want, many people do.

You will find that if a club runs sidecars, they will have a separate F1 and F2 class, but they will almost always be in the same race.

Hope to see you out there.

Thank you for your answer Whites, time to start looking for an outfit. Haven't got a big budget so probably be an ebay item that requires some tlc as the ones on here seem to be sorted machines with the matching price tag. Not looking to be competitive initially although it would be nice, just getting out there and gaining some experience.

Thanks again.

Hi Scott and welcome.

I would look at which club you are most likely to race with and see how many F1 and F2 outfits normally race with them. If they only have one or two F1's and lots of F2's I would go for an F2.

If you fancy a classic then there's many different classes to try.

Good luck with your decision.

An outfit that needs some tlc will probably need more money than you're expecting to get it race ready. Even the smallest little things turn into bigger things and you could end up spending more. I'm not trying to put you off ebay - but do beware that you might be better off spending slightly more inthe first place.

Thanks Simon, will look into clubs and go from there.

Thanks Steve, I'm guessing if you buy off ebay it's going to be older and not been used for a while as it's not being sold on here.

Thanks again Scott

Tubular F1 LCR style chassis advertised on the site for £2500, looks like a good deal if you don't mind looking for an engine to fit in it
