CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014
CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014
At the recent sidecar meeting with Sidecar Bloke (Ian Johnson) and some of the current sidecar crews who could make it a proposal to change the current 750 class formats was raised and voted on positively.
The new formats are as follows:
The current 750cc championships (Period1 and Period 2) will be reformed to allow other engines to race in the new championship formats. To race in these championships competitors must run Red Number Plates with White Numbers.
The New Championships will be:-
Production Based Twin Cylinder 2 Valve Engines (750 Production Twins) – This championship will cater for all standard stroke 2 valve twins that are currently eligible for Period 1 and Period 2 events. Note 650 to 750 big bore kits are eligible for this championship BUT short stroking or rephasing of the crankshaft from standard (180/90 degree etc) will put the bike into the Specials/Multis Championship. Eligible engines will be BSA, Triumph, Norton, BMW, Yamaha, Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Harley Davidson and any other production based 750cc 2 valve twin from the classic period as laid down in the CRMC Rules.
Note – Production based engines can run up to +1mm overbore on standard bore and for big bore kits +1mm on standard big bore size.
Note – There is no differentiation by wheel diameter.
Twin Cylinder Engined Specials and Multi Cylinder Engines (750 Specials and Multi’s) – This championship will cater for twin cylinder engines with altered stroke lengths or rephrased crankshafts (180/90 etc), 4 valve twins and any multi cylinder engine from the classic period as laid down in the CRMC Rules limited to 750cc.
Probable engines - BMW Shortstroke, Honda CB750, Weslake 750, Triumph Weslake, Triumph/BSA 3, Imp plus any other classic eligible engine limited to 750cc
Note – There is no differentiation by wheel diameter.
The proposal was seen as a positive step for 750 racing within the sidecar class so we took on the initiative to communicate out to people and it would be great if interested crews could reply to the thread or pm to show your commitment to racing in 1 of the new Championships
Many Thanks

Good sensible rules, however, unlike in the recent past, eligibility needs to be regourously policed,or the rules mean nothing.

Re: CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014
Just to follow up on the initial post, at the CRMC AGM it was officially announced that the changes mentioned on this thread will be going ahead for the 2014 season.
So its time to dust off any of those eligible 750 engines, sling some tubes and 3 wheels around them and get them down to race with the CRMC in 2014.
Just to re iterate the new CRMC P1/P2 classes are shown below
P1 - Production Based Twin Cylinder 2 Valve Engines (750 Production Twins) – This championship will cater for all production based standard stroke 2 valve twins that are currently eligible for Period 1 and Period 2 events. Note 650 to 750 big bore kits are eligible for this championship.

Note – Production based engines can run up to +1mm overbore on standard bore and for big bore kits +1mm on standard big bore.
Note - Short stroking or rephasing of the crankshaft from standard (180/90 degree etc) will put the bike into the P2 (Specials/Multis) Championship
P2 - Twin Cylinder Engined Specials and Multi Cylinder Engines (750 Specials and Multi’s) – This championship will cater for twin cylinder engines with altered stroke lengths or rephrased crankshafts (180/90 etc), 4 valve twins and any multi cylinder engine from the classic period as laid down in the CRMC Rules limited to 750cc.
Probable engines - BMW Shortstroke, Norton Shortstroke, Honda CB750, Weslake 750, Triumph Weslake, Triumph/BSA 3, Imp, Crescent, Saab plus any other classic eligible engine limited to 750cc
Note – There is no differentiation by wheel diameter

Hi
Not sure if your rules allow alloy barrels! I'm building alloy barrels for the A65, the photo is of a 79mm bore, weight without bolts and studs is 3.5kg against 9.3kg for a cast iron one.
If your rule allow them or you want more information get in touch.

I think these barrels will be within the rules if they look close to original,Bill Hodgkins uses Maney alloy barrels which look a bit different and are already used by a lot of solo's in the club

I would suggest that you speak to Sidecar Bloke to sort a solution

Re: CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014

Hi Peter - Just did a bit of maths and 40 thou is the equivalent of 1mm oversize which the regs allow so your fine, with that good bit of news are you coming out to play in 2014 ??????

Re: CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014
A little more information and a few more photo's of my barrel. Maximum bore is 80mm which will give you 744cc.
The patterns were made for me, material is LM25-TF and are CNC machined and Nikasil coated. The company doing the coating requires a piston to be sent with the barrel to ensure you get the best fit.
The cost of the barrel with a set of bolt and studs is 700 GBP plus p/p, no VAT.
The first batch are already spoken for, but I'm planning to run another batch in January, terms are half on order and the remained prior to shipping.

Is the £700 price to include the nikasil plating ?
Do you supply piston kits and head gaskets ?

Hi Howard,
Are you building a BSA sidecar? If so it would be great to see it on the grid in the 750 championship

Re: CRMC 750 Sidecar Championships for 2014
Hi Howard
Yes, price includes the Nikasil coating.
I've not considered supplying pistons, due to the wide variation of price and type, plus most people would probably want to stay with the piston manufacturer/type they had their cranks balanced to, therefore unlikely that I'd be able to buy/supply pistons at a cost any different to the individual.
Head gaskets are also available and unless availability was an issue! I'd not thought of supplying or manufacturing these.
Hope that's of help, but feel free to ask any other questions you have.
