Hi people,

You will have received a UEM entry form with your CRMC entry pack (the blue form). Donington is the UK round - the Scandinavian round is at Jyllandsringen, Denmark on 13/14 September.

In order for us to keep the class alive we must have entries. There are two classes:-

8a Pre 1972 Sidecar outfits, up to 1000cc, 10" or 12" wheels, max rim width 5.5".
8b Pre 1972 Sidecar outfits, up to 750cc, >16" wheels, max rim width 4".

Entry is free to all CRMC competitors at Donington, so please complete the entry form and send to John Davidson as soon as possible. If, by now, you have mislaid/binned your entry pack, you can either download the form from the CRMC website or contact me and I will email a copy to you.

The trophies are awarded at the CRMC Dinner Dance.

No 13" wheels in 8a? Has this changed since last year?

What is it that makes a component period or not?? Is it that it was used in the period, if so 13" wheels should be permitted, a friend of mine Dave Bishop used them from 1969 onwards. I seem to remember two others used 13 but as yet have been unable to remember their names. I think that there were others as well, as i mainly did southern meetings from 64 -74 my memories don't cover the complete period so possibly more were in use. Or is it that not many peeps used 13"

I agree with you John, 13" were defo used before 1972. I'm not sure if these were 13" or 12", I know his later outfits ,1967 up used 12".

Ian, The bike used by Dave Bishop definitely had 13"wheels I raced against him a few times and he was a friend who lived fairly close, I will go through my photo's and try and jog my memory for the names and hopefully find some good enough pics to confirm 13".

Ian,the wheels on the Bmw in your photo, look like formula 1/2 Lotus Wobbly web wheels, which means they were either 15"or 13"I believe.

You are quite wrong to say 13" wheels are not in period. In 1967 there were a few sidecar outfits using them, John Flood, on his Vincent, and Mick Nolan, on his Triumph to name but two.

yes, of course if one searches/digg their memories enough you probably come up with one or two handfull of outfits that tried 13 inch wheels pre-31/12/72...

...from how many outfits that raced all over UK at that time...at least 500 or maybe even a 1000 outfits all over the UK?

So what are we talking? 1 to 2%? Is that "general use"...?

Remember Enders became World Champion in 1972 with 12 inch wheels and DRUM BRAKES.

Thats great guys, but doesn't really help me.

If you want to discuss what was about when start your own thread. This is why nothing ever gets answered on here anymore like it should!

Jason, I think 13" should be allowed in 8a. John, There were only a small number of 12" wheels used in period but nobody moans about them. I really don't see the problem. If components were used in period they are acceptable providing there is proof of use regardless of how many. There are riders who are racing currently on 16" 750's who are beating the big class bikes with 13"'s , one of which is ours, which is on 16" dunlop F & R 5"x 10" s/c, not a yoko in sight! So should we be banned because we are beating bigger bikes with bigger modern rubber and better brakes. One of the moans i hear is about the cost of 13" Dunlop and Avon tyres they are not much different 10" 12" and 16" although yoko's are. To those those who moan about cost of tyres etc I say racing is costly so find ways of beating the cost.
