TED YOUNG

Unread post by dick hawes »

I RECENTLY MET A NICE LADY "LINDA" WHOS UNCLE WAS THE SIDECAR DRIVER/CONSTRUCTOR "TED YOUNG" STAR OF THE 50/60s
WHEN I STARTED RACING IT WAS ON ONE OF HIS OLD TRIUMPH OUTFITS. JIM MANN AND I USED TO GREASE THE INSIDE OF THE TELE
FORKS BEFORE EACH RACE TO STOP THE FRONT TYRE 'HOWLING' AS IT RUBBED ON THE FORKS
I REMEMBER HIM BEING THE "MIKE RICHARDS/TERRY WINDLE" OF THE ERA. HE TRADED AS "ARCHWAY MOTORS IN THE TOTTENHAM AREA
AND BUILT MANY PARTS FOR THE EARLY 'LOTUS' RACING CARS.
CAN ANY OF YOU BOFFINS OFFER ANY INFORMATION REGARDING HIM [if you can then you are an even older geezer than me]

THANK YOU

If it's 'Arch Motors' , rather than 'Archway'; then he built the original chassis for the Lotus 7 S1 & 2.

Thank you John and others for much information during your phone calls What a motorcycling family. Teds brother lewis was a famous Continental
Circus solo racer for several years riding a Tom Kirby machine. Alan Young, another brother was a great engineer and built and raced a 500cc outfit
powered by "2" Honda CB72 motors. Another brother, well known to John Simper was Teds passenger. There is a photo of Ted in action in the latest
'Classic Racer'
