Ground clearance

Unread post by sidecarcop »

I've noticed on some recent pictures posted of Mac Hobson and the Hanks Bros that the sidecar platform seems to have more ground clearance than the bike, looks like approx 6 inchs from the ground.. My question is why was this and when did it change. I realise that it gave clearance for passengers toes and later outfits had lower floors with just the back kicked up, but what was the thinking then.

Hi

Some of the older outfits had the platform at sidecar wheel spindle height, it also let you run the exhausts under the platform if you wanted. I'm sure some others can give more insight.
