Robin Daykin RIP
It is 3 years now since Robin passed his last great chequered flag and left a very big gap in the sidecar paddock and many of our lives.
As Team Past It, with the lovely Annette, they were great ambassadors for our fantastic sport and there are a few teams racing now because after seeing Team Past it doing so well on the track realised it perhaps wasn't too late for them after all to have a go themselves.
Robin took many would be passengers out on practice days at Mallory and quite a few are racing now and thankful to Robin for his initial assistance.
It is amazing how many spectators were converted to watching the 'crazy' sidecars after visiting the paddock and talking to Robin and Annette and became avid Team Past It and slidey fans.
Always helpful and ready with advice, a smile and an interesting tale, Robin was one of the true characters of the paddock and hardly anything, be it injury, illness or cancer treatment could stop him being on that start line on a weekend.
Still much missed and thought about often, save me a seat by the fire mate.
My thoughts are with Annette, as always xxxx

Re: Robin Daykin RIP
If it wasn't for Robin and Annette chatting to me when I was marshalling at Tonfanau, I would still be marshalling not racing! I thought I was too old at 57, and the wrong sex being female, but Robin and Annette told me that was rubbish. Then Paul Lumley gave me the chance to drive, and now I am much poorer in money, but richer in experience! Roll on 2016 - hope to see you out again Annette!

Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to know Robin, but Annette has been very generous with advice and Team Past It have been role models for me. I love the way the sidecar family welcomes everyone, it doesn't matter about age/creed/colour/wealth etc. - if you can do it, there is a place and class for all.

Re: Robin Daykin RIP
Just reading about Robin makes me wish I had known him, but it wasn't to be.. I arrived in sidecar racing just at the time he was crossing the finishing line.... Myself and the young lad who was my apprentice at work said he fancied passengering , but when we went to Lydden Hill on the Bemsee test day, he was frightened by the speed of the F1 he went out on.
So we agreed I would get a F2, but as anyone who tries to buy an F2 will find - it ain't easy! Then we got wind of Robin and Annette's bike right "up north" being for sale. So I drove up on a whim, ringing Annette on the way - only to find that another bloke - described by Annette as "a lovely lad called Ben" was on the way with a van to pick it up !! "Bastard!" I thought.
Well since then, that bike, Ben and Vaughan ( Ben owns the bike, Vaughan rides it) have been nip and tuck in learning the ropes and getting our bibs off and getting faster...Great friends too... Infact, we have been very close on the track, them and us on the F2 I eventually bought up until this year, when I jumped ship and moved onto an F1 - but it is fair to say that I have seen more of the back of Robin's bike charging down the straights and into the corners than anyone else! And when they had "the big one" at Pembrey this year, we were already stopped at the very next corner and saw it all, and I ran back to see the poor bike smashed to bits and Vaughan not that much better lying on the grass at the side of the track alongside the bike, with Ben winded but more or less OK. However, the good news is Paul Lumley has worked his magic and a small cube of Ireson is once more straight and true, and Robin's legacy continues! RIP Robin. We Continue the Race.

Spot on Dan - it was Robin & Annette's enthusiasm that got us back into racing after a 12 year retirement - will never forget the grin on his face after a good race...Dan wrote: There are a few teams racing now because after seeing Team Past it doing so well on the track realised it perhaps wasn't too late for them after all to have a go themselves.
All our best wishes to Annette...

I think every race was a good race as far as Robin was concerned, GordonG JONES wrote: will never forget the grin on his face after a good race...

We meet years ago in Horice, Czech Republic racing our old Triumph outfit against Robin´s Enfield outfit and had a lot of fun. Robin really loved live and racing with his wonderful wife Annette. We were honoered to meet them ! All the Best to Annette
