FRSA F2 - Great Race, Bad Attitude

Unread post by Shrek »

Great racing at the weekend but I must say I was very disappointed by one of the FRSA F2 teams having a go at my Flag marshal at the end of Race 2 because he didn't like his blue flagging and he blamed the marshal for causing him to run across the grass at Coppice Down because of a back marker. I do know who it was but I am not posting this to name names, just asking for a little respect for the people in orange who have given up their weekend so you can race and if you don't like his flagging how about you come out one weekend and show us how to do it.

As I understand it, it's the faster bikes responsibility to pass safely and not expect the slower outfit to dive out the way, so try adjusting your attitude or next time I will report it to race control and they can deal with it, which would cost a lot more time than the second you lost through Coppice.

Hello sir , Lee Crawford here , as I currently hold the position of FSRA F2 riders representive I am keen to know who the un named article is about?
Although I cannot do anything about the matter in hand as it's already passed I can only apologise for any issue there may of been. Tensions were most probably high , as a rider my self we all appreciate the support from both clubs and those individuals in it and can only hold the highest respect for marshals as without them we wouldn't be racing. Feel free to message me or call me on 07967596141 so we can resolve this matter in the best possible way ,

Many thanks

Lee Crawford

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the offer.

To be fair if it was me he'd given a mouthful I would have told him where to go, but it was a young lad who has done plenty of cars and this was his first bike meeting. I'm not sure the marshal will be back to do another one as he was quite annoyed about it.

I don't think there is much we can do about it now and I know 99% of you guys appreciate our efforts but after all the hard work we do recruiting marshals it is quite frustrating to loose a young keen lad over such a matter. Hopefully this post will stop it happening again and that was my main purpose.

An interesting read 'Shrek'. We experienced a very similar incident, involving blue flags, a lack of them (allegedly), accusation of bad marshalling etc a few weeks ago. I wonder if it was the same outfit.

I can vouch there were definitely blue flags deployed during this incident. I was watching the lad to see how he was doing.

Shrek, please do give Lee a call. Just don't leave it posted up online for lots to read (this thread has had over 225 views) and to natter/gossip/whinge and complain about - lets do something about it.

Adrenaline makes people do/say things they normally wouldn't and a warm down lap after 9-12 laps (20 mins+) of hard top class F2 racing won't be long enough to let it subside, so I very much doubt it was premeditated. I'm a passenger and usually a pretty chilled guy - but I marched around a paddock last season, funnily enough it was at Cadwell, looking for two other crews to go and have a word with them about a small on track race incident which really was not much at all. I spent the warm down lap rehearsing what I was going to say to them and it took me more than 15 mins to calm down and see sense and laugh about it with them over a beer!

There's simply no excuse at all for one of the sidecar crew to behave like that towards an orange army member or fellow racer. So do have a word with Lee, who after you've both talked (even if you mention no names/race numbers) can may be have an appropriate quiet word with the crew involved and/or also ensure that a general reminder is given to all crews at the next race meeting. This is exactly the sort of thing he's there for as the riders rep to deal with.

Scrutineers/Marshall's/COC/time keepers/race secretary/race office staff etc... we couldn't race without - so do at least call Lee and chat it through. Despite how he looks, he's quite sensible and won't make a mountain out of a mole hill.
