How to go Motorcycle Racing Without Breaking the Bank

Unread post by David Stewart »

We did this little promo video at Anglesey last week.
I really hate being in front of the camera and usually go a long way to avoid it (as Yangi will tell you), but Syd conned me into doing it.
Anyone from north of Watford may need subtitles as my South London drawl might be hard to follow.

It's not specific to sidecars, it's actually about Golden Era Supersport/Steelsport, but I thought someone more talented than myself might like to use it as a template for making a similar video about Pre-Injection Sidecar Racing.

I think that some potential newcomers to Sidecar Racing may have similar preconceptions and you could perhaps address those with a video breakdown for the Pre-Injection Sidecar costs and accessibility.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Hi Phil,

This video has had a ridiculous amount of views on various platforms, with over 50,000 full length views. It has generated a large number of enquiries too and I think it the visual aspect of the bikes that has caught peoples interest. They don't look like old sheds and people can actually see them as something attractive.

The Pre-Injection class is probably suffering from a similar mis-conception in the minds eye of potential sidecar newbies. If you got the two best looking outfits (one fully clothed and the other with the fairing off) I think you might be able to put a more accurate and attractive picture in the minds of people who want to start sidecar racing.

You could also use a front man that's a bit more media friendly. Hope that is useful.

Very good, Dave. Rob Fisher's outfit is immaculate and could be unclothed, with Bruce Moore's as the clothed one. It occurs to me, however, that if co-operation could be attained, the BEARS should also be introduced - how about the Guzzi outfit which is beautiful and the prettiest of the ugly K100s?

SlowPhil can do the talking, and I would be glad if me and Kerry were featured to show that old people and women can race too!

So, presumably it would come down to cost, and also organisation in getting everyone together. If Oulton Park is the first round of the 2017 Pre-injection championship, it wouldn't be too far for Slow Phil and the owner of the Guzzi BEARS (sorry forgotten your name - is it Tony?) So would Syd be able to do it there? If so, how much? That would allow time for the FSRA and Vintage Club to discuss it at their winter meetings and approve or not.

Hi Marrianne,
You don't need Syd to do it, as we made that one using a £140 hand held camcorder rather than one of our broadcast TV cameras. Steve English and Slow Phil have more than enough technical know how to do an excellent job.
You really need to do it now, so that you have something that will capture the huge winter audience of people looking for something to do next year. All of the clubs that run sidecars should be more than willing to share it on their social media platforms, so your audience (in theory) should be much larger than ours.
Dave
(BTW - That particular video has had just under a Quarter of a Million views now and has produced 11 new entries into those two classes in just 3 weeks)

If you needed a location to film it, I'm sure I could sort something out for you at pretty much any of the circuits.

Dave

I phoned Rob Fisher but he was out, and I am off to Donington now. Will chase this idea up on Monday next week.
