Pembrey circuit changes over winter

Unread post by steve-e »

There's been a bit of digging going on at Pembrey, now after coming round the long lefts before the Esses there is the option of a short straight into what looks almost a chicane left/right.. there's something going on along the back straight but I haven't seen any photos of that yet.

The spiel for it is funny, it makes it sound a lot more exciting than a chicane but heyho..

Details on Pembrey website here..

Me and brother Ian did the same one warm up. Into the esses and the back wheel was toeing out for some reason. As the back started to slide I put some weight on it and the thing suddenly spun like a top as it gripped. Upside down somewhere near the hairpin by the time we stopped.

So it's two chicanes, one before the Esses and one before the kink on the back straight.

Hairpin unchanged, spitfire right then the next left unchanged... as you go left at the bar don't do the last apex but straight on a few hundred yards. Then the new 90 left into a 90 right that brings you back onto the Esses and down the slope to Brooklands hairpin (watch out for the knuckle scraping high kerb on the inside passengers :P ) onto the back straight. As you go along the back straight there's an earlier slight right into a 90 degree left, 90 degree right back onto the straight just before the fast kink and then Honda onto the start finish line.

If memory serves me right ;)

The only bad corner of the lot was the first hairpin, would have been worth doing something between the hairpin and the left before the bar

they're slow already. I don't know what is going on but the plot seems to be slowing down any fast corners, not the dangerous ones.

The hairpin at Pembrey is a sod of a thing, I'm sure peeople get hurt there more than flat out through the back kink
