Herve, Wallet or no wallet the result will be exactly the same. The reason is talent. In car racing there was a series in which retired F1 drivers competed in cars with same chassis, engine,gearbox all painted the same and guess what, it did not produce the close racing that you would expect neither did it give the varied winners you may have hoped for. Talent always shines through and that includes the expertise of the teams setting up the vehicles and prepping them. You can walk around any race paddock in the world and have good idea of those which will be towards the front and those who follow. Again look at F1 there are winners and the rest but you don't hear the tail end charlies wining about not being able to win,they try harder to resolve their issues.The more effort you put in the more you get out.!!

ther never has been "close "racing there is the front runner,the middle one and the tailenders BUTthe less talented needs the have a carrot in front as if they do not they get discouraged and stay away the racing will dwindle and eventually will die.a difficult thing this is .it used to b good when there was a and b finals and one class in a club championship. i believe the crmc are trying to asuage too many classes
Sorry but 666`s assertion that the results would be the same cannot be true,if Joe Soap is on the grid on his true classic of the same capacity of the period and he is next to Mr Chequebook on his no expense spared"interpretation"of the rules of a capacity that was not period on his machine its fairly obvious who is going to beat who,look at the Classic Manx in latter years people would not bring out a genuine bike, Manx, 7R or Aermachi because a cheap Honda K4 modded would thrash them, not the case in the period,so BMWs,Imps and the like should be restricted to what they were in period,but as said before its never going to happen
Peter, What I was trying to say was that if you put everybody on identical bikes the result would be the same, there have been lots of instances over the years when front runners have borrowed another bike from a rider who usually finishes in midfield positions and won with it. At Lydden George O'dell broke his engine a spectator loaned him the worn out standard eng from his road bike which they hastily transplanted and he won the final. Also one of the riders at CRMC used another competitors bike to qualify on and having never ridden the bike before also using a passenger who was new to him lapped in a time which was massively quicker than he who the bike was borrowed from. This is the difference between two drivers using the same bike and passenger on the same day. Also if you were to put a rider who normally finishes way down the field on a front running bike the odds are they would do no better than on their own bike. A friend of mine who alas is now dead was a prime example of this, he was well off and when various race winning bikes were for sale he bought a few of them over the years and this Joe soap never improved. A lot of riders on classics will not ride that extra bit harder to win because they have other parts of their life which they need to be fit for so will only ride at maybe 95%, as they wish to take themselves and bike home in one piece.The reason's for peeps not winning are many and varied but Money and big engines are not the reasons why others do the winning, It's COMMITMENT.
666 Sorry but we are going to have to disagree,you can the most committed person but if you don`t have the budget you can forget it, but the main discussion is if it was raced in the period then it should be allowed in, so that means what was period should still be so,therefore Imps should be 875cc I believe the only ones at 900 plus were from the Sunbeam Stilleto, BMWs should be what they were in the period,BSA & Triumph triples should be 750cc
Peter,We can either run by the rules and regs of pre 72 which is very clear as we were allowed to run up too 1300cc with the odd few taking this advantage which nobody at the time were worried about we just happily raced which is what we do or emulate what actually happened within the period. I DON'T MIND EITHER OPTION WE WILL WIN WITH EITHER OR BE VERY CLOSE TO IT. We currently run a 750cc BMW on 16" wheels giving the front runners with big engines,rubber and better brakes a hard time with a certain amount of them behind us and not a 750 anywhere near. Matt Kingsmill used to do a lot of winning on a 750cc BMW with fat tyres and brakes. I don't think any of the 750 riders did or do make any complaint about being beaten. Again the key words are talent and commitment,just throwing money at sport of any type does NOT make winners. There is another thing to explore concerning finance and ability,smoking and beer. if these are your pleasure OK but the riders who use these products on a regular basis could be spending about £80 per week thats 20 a day and three pints at the w/end which is of course their choice,both of which are detrimental to their performance but not forgetting that those who choose these "pleasures" would be able should they wan't to spend that money on the sport they love and help their endeavours to move up the finishing order. It's the same with anything in life if you wan't something enough make some sacrifices in other areas.
