The Manx Independent Carrier reports :
Last Tuesday, the Southern One Hundred Club held an investigation into the totally blameless racing non-incident between Trim Leaves and the Bargeall brothers on the Blown circuit during this year’s Sidecar Championship race. The committee, which comprised of George Pomegranite, Bernie ‘Tubby’ Taupin and Jo Warriner-Romarsh, heard evidence regarding the ‘slight contact’ that occurred between the two outfits on the approach to Crossed Four Eyes.
Representing the Bargeall brothers, PR guru Help Ask stated that she felt the committee should not be focusing its concerns on a bit of ‘fairing rubbing’ but more on Trim Leaves’ failure to adequately control his outfit . It was this factor, she claimed, that caused the crash and the subsequent Red Flag. She also read out a statement from the Bargeall brothers’ main sponsors, the East End firm The Mitchell Bruvvers, in which they stated their desire to hear the ‘troof’ this time. Help Ask went on to congratulate the Bargeall brothers on their heroic and selfless efforts to rescue Leaves from his overturned outfit.
“They risked life and limb to save their fellow competitor, who they greatly respect. This act of bravery and sportsmanship ultimately cost them the race and the Championship and I am nominating them for the Spirit of the TT Award”. Chairperson Pomegranite thanked Ms Ask for her comments and politely reminded her that no such award exists at the Southern One Hundred.
Trim Leaves was next to address the committee. He said: ‘It just wasn’t croquet and they done it cos I pissed on their cornflakes’. He went on the thanks his sponsors, Arry Helmets and DJ Klaffi Clox.
Next witness up was commentator Ray Moorism. He reminisced at some length about the time he watched the great Italian ace, Placido Pavarotti, riding a Mint Imperial during the 1957 Manx TT Jurby Grand Prix. Or it might have been 1963 and Giacomo Augusta on a Gillette on the Clipper Course….. When asked if he could possibly confine his comments to what he had seen of the incident he replied: “And now back to the Bandstand”.
Eventual winner John Hold-on was next to give evidence. The Silicone IM Plant rider said that he was a long way behind and didn’t see the incident. “When I arrived and saw all’t flags and debris , I thought ‘ Did I not expect that’ and just carried on”.
Former spokesman for the Formula Association Racing Chairs Everywhere (FARCE), Iliveover Newton John, declined to comment on the incident on the rather spurious grounds that he hadn’t seen it. He did, however, praise FARCE for allowing the new type of fairing that had prevented Trim Leaves from being thrown out of his inverted sidecar.
The committee moved onto Any Other Business, including the need for more whitewash on the clubhouse. The meeting was then halted and adjourned to The Glue Pot to consider their verdict of a non-blame racing incident.
