Old TT awards

Unread post by adam10185 »

Hi, could anyone please offer some help with my latest TT project.
Basically I’m trying to record all the "special awards" given each year right back to the beginning of the TT.
I have everything from 1907-1966 and most from 1986 onwards but mainly missing those from the late 60's - early 80's.

I appreciate being a sidecar forum that knowledge from the solo's may be limited but if anyone could help from the sidecar awards that would help. I've spent several years putting all this together so would love to finally have it complete. I've tried several well known people involved in the TT past and present but not had much joy.

I am missing several winners from the following :

Frank Cope trophy (Best overall finisher by a rider/driver whose performance is judged to be the meritorious in regards to his age)
Anything before 1984, 2003, 2010 onwards

Vernon Cooper/Newcomers trophy (Best newcomer of the meeting, solo or sidecar)
1967, 1974-1980

Fred Hanks trophy (best sidecar 2-stroke)
2002

Bill Boddice Trophy (Best sidecar fourstroke)
1982-1983

Terry Vinicombe trophy (Best sidecar performance by a British driver on a British machine)
Any years

Joe Craig trophy (Best British competitor on a British manufacturer)
1967, 1978-1986, 2002

I am also after the official results books from 2002-2003 if anyone has a copy to spare or could scan the results pages

You guys have been really helpful with my previous appeals for information.

Thanks
Adam

I think you'll find the Terry Vinicombe trophy was won by Nigel Rollason, passengered by the late Donny Williams :notworthy: riding Nigel's outfit powered by the Barton Pheonix engine, 1986. The last year it was won, to date?

Contact Bill Snelling (he's on facebook), and bruce.baker@gov.im.. they may be able to help you
Bill produced results books for many years and has copious records. Bruce works in the TT office and, if he doesn't know.. may recommend someone who does. Look forward to seeing the results of your research

Cheers Helen
I've tried Bill but sadly he said he could only help for the years the results books were produced, 1984-2009. I know he isn't in the best of health so don’t want to press him too much for information.

I have a couple of books from the mid 60's that give all the previous special awards but it’s largely from 67-83 that I’m struggling with, i have every TT edition of MCN from that era but they didn’t always list the awards. I've also managed (after much trying) to get a list of the special awards from 2010 onwards but they didn't contain all the info I was after. I've put a lot of time into this so would love it complete.

I'll certainly try Bruce, thanks.

Try Barry Wood too, although he's more of an MGP man, and Elwyn Roberts (also on Facebook) Bruce may be able to get the info from the trophies.

Hi Helen, thanks for Bruce's contact details, he has already managed to provide me with some of the info I need and has put me in contact with someone else who can also possibly help. Cheers.
