36 outfits or specifically 72 riders/passengers on the track at any one time. Driven by the insurance company I hear.

And why 80 for solos ? because to save money they have one helicopter less available for the sides, and a simple 2 outfit incident could be 4 people that is all the air support around..

I met with the IOM Gov motorsport department last week who did not know where this 35 bike limit rumour came from, it was not from them and as far as they were concerned they want to increase the sidecar grid.

However they did say that they are looking for quality rather than quantity due to qualying speeds increasing. For newcomers they will look at the standard of racing, results, history, racing instances etc to make sure they are prepared for the TT.

They may need to reduce solo numbers as the lap times are getting quicker and there isnt much time between the last man leaving the grandstand and the leader coming through, and it takes a few minutes for the start line to be cleared of pit crews etc and i think there were a few close calls last year. So maybe his is where the rumours came from.

Ive asked them to issue a communication to clear things up, but it was the same day as Gary T came off his bike so that may delay things.

Thnaks for the clarity Dave. So, basically, it's a rumour - so lets leave it there.
