2019-2020 Mountain Course Licence

Unread post by Alun »

I've seen a couple of minor changes to clause 4 of the conditions for a mountain course licence. I don't think it will make a difference to many sidecar people but there a few people who get their results at places like Jurby and a few Classic TT competitors it could make life difficult for. The days of getting you bike out in April an having a wobble round in any class for a finish may be over. That 92.5% may creep up in a year or two.

4. For all Newcomers 3 of the 6 required race results must show the rider as having finished the
race and have an average race speed equal to or greater than 92.5% of their respective CLASS
winner. (ACU National licence upgrade qualifying criteria).
NOTE FOR 2020 ONWARDS: For all Competitors 3 of the 6 required race results must show
the rider as having finished the race and have an average race speed equal to or greater than
92.5% of their respective CLASS winner. (ACU National licence upgrade qualifying criteria)

Some at the back might struggle to finish that close to the winner anywhere depending who's at the front.

For new comers this year the results for your race signatures needed to be at national level.

So you get to the meeting and Molly, Birchell etc have gone there for their points and average Joe has got to lap within 92.5 % of their time. Well that looks like the end of the TT as there will be at the most 20 bikes out.

It can't mean only national meetings can it?
Apart from BSB what is there?

I need to download the TT regulations and see what it says exactly.

It refers to your 6 "Mountain Course Validation Signatures".
They need to be the same as the "National upgrade requirement" which is 92.5% of your class winners time.

If Tim Reeves or Dave Molyneux does 12 laps of Brands Hatch at an average race speed of 94.32mph (as and example) you need to have been classified as a finisher (this could easily include being one lap down on the result sheet at somewhere as short as Brands Hatch) at a Race Speed of 87.246mph or faster.

This is not a harsh requirement and if you look at the race results on TSL or My Laps you will see that it is only ever the last 3 or 4 finishers that don't reach this limit.
It was introduced to stop people just "going through the motions" and sometimes circulating at dangerously slow speeds just to get the signatures.

In all honesty, if you can't get these results I would ask whether or not you should be planning on taking part in the biggest and most challenging real roads race in the world. - Sorry if that offends anyone, but it is the truth.

PS. It can be at any meeting where there are 6 entries or more in your race. Not just NATIONAL meetings.
Hope that helps.

Yeah it doesn't say it has to be a national meeting, it says it is the same as the requirements to obtain a national licence.

That sounds fair.
If you've got to qualify when you get there you might as well be quick enough before you go.
