Hi,
Thought I'd seen a thread on this subject but can't seem to find it.
Thinking of buying a sidecar via the ads on here from abroad, aware of NOVA1 but does that apply to race vehicles, what are the pitfalls, is tax payable, what receipts are needed.
You know the series of questions that need answering.
Any help gratefully received, cheers Ian

Re: Importing
Depends where you're buying it from.
If an EU country then no import duty due, but VAT will be payable on the cost of the item plus any shipping charges. As its not a vehicle which will be registered, I don't think NOVA will apply.
Be prepared potentially for a lot of paperwork, but then again, that great representative of the common man Jacob Rees-Mogg, has just kicked the post Brexit import checks can a long way down the road.

Re: Importing
This will only work if they don't need a Carnet when they bring the bike over in the first place.lrb1 wrote: Sun May 01, 2022 2:14 pm how about go view the bike where it is then get them to bring across the water as if they were coming to compete then buy from here
The whole job is a total mess and we're a lot worse off for it. I also note its not stopped all the dinghies arriving in Kent.

Re: Importing
As NickO say's, it all depends what you are buying & where from?
I've imported from the USA so I can give you some idea from there.
Forget NOVA if it's not to be used on the road over here.
Say it's a racing bike.
Last time I imported it was-
Value of bike, add cost of shipping in the USA, add cost of shipping across from USA to UK, then import duty is a percentage of that value which you also add to the total. VAT is also added ( again at what percentage rate depends on what the item is ) Donald Trump mesed around with our imports so import duty went up.
I've always used Kingston Shipping in Hull, great people. They specialise in vehicle shipping & import & will handle all the paperwork, google them & give them a ring they will give you up to date info.
