From Mick Staiano
Sadly, former sidecar passenger Andy Wilson died suddenly earlier this month, following a short illness, at the relatively young age of 60.
Andy lived in Harrogate all his life, and competed alongside drivers including Mick Staiano, Pete Willis and Eddy Wright, finishing second in the 1988 A.C.U. British Formula Two Sidecar Championship, scoring several wins and podium places. Unfortunately, his racing career ended prematurely following an incident at Brands Hatch in 1989, where he sustained serious fractures to his legs. He is remembered for being of great help in the paddock and with machine preparation, as well as having a jovial and outgoing personality.
Andy had a lifelong interest in motorcycles, starting at the tender age of 13, when he began assisting with repairs at Mick Staiano's motorcycle shop - working there for two decades, before a less conventional career path of working in a plant nursery for a short period. He did however return to Staiano Motorcycles seven years ago, where he worked as a mechanic.
