FIM Sidecar: Just under four handfuls of teams on the grid

There are exactly two weeks to go until the opening round of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) at the Sachsenring. The countdown is on and the field of riders in the FIM Sidecar World Championship is now also peppered with big names.

The dream team Todd Ellis/Emanuelle Clement has geared up for the World Championship title defence. The British-French pair already took part in the first Scottish Sidecar Festival in East Fortune in mid-April and met their rivals Stephen Kershaw and Ryan Charlwood there – the eventual race winners. Both raced in their own league and one eyewitness reported that he had never seen a sidecar or solo bike go through the „Hannah’s“ corner. The pre-season result has nothing to say yet, except: It will definitely be exciting at the top of the world championship. Kershaw/Charlwood are last year’s overall bronze medallists and, in purely mathematical terms, are now closest to Ellis/Clement. Vice-man Markus Schlosser has hung up his helmet.

The Swiss Lukas Wyssen/Thomas Hofer, on the other hand, in fourth place, were also only 14 points behind Kershaw/Charlwood. And what will come from multi-world champion Tim Reeves, who has recently concentrated on the IDM and has now teamed up again with his ex-co-driver Mark Wilkes? And where do the previous IDM teams find themselves at all, all of whom now automatically take part in the World Championship? How far will the German champions Josef Sattler/Luca Schmidt get? The cards in the FIM Sidecar World Championship have been completely redistributed. Motor Presse Stuttgart as the new promoter will bring new momentum to the series.

19 teams have signed up. On Friday, 12 May 2023, training sessions and the first qualifying session will take place at the Sachsenring. On Saturday, 13 May 2023, the final qualifying and a sprint race will be held. It will be over eleven laps. The main race on Sunday will have 20 laps.
