Celtic Match Races Return!

After a long 16-year hiatus, the celebrated Celtic Match Races are poised for a thrilling comeback, igniting enthusiasm among motorcycle race fans and riders alike. This highly anticipated event unites teams from the Isle of Man, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, all competing for the coveted Celtic Sword of Honour—an emblem of excellence that showcases skill, teamwork, and national pride.

Each year, the event rotates among the participating nations, allowing them to highlight their unique landscapes and passionate fanbases. This September, the picturesque setting of East Fortune in Scotland will serve as the stage for this unique event on Saturday, 20th September/, 21st September. The last instalment of this iconic championship took place at the Jurby circuit in the Isle of Man back in 2010, where the spirited Manx team triumphed and etched their name in the annals of racing history.

Since the inception of the Celtic Match Races in 1979, Team Ireland has consistently demonstrated remarkable prowess, amassing a record-breaking 17 overall victories that underline their dominance in the event. This year marks a fresh chapter in the events 39 year legacy, with an innovative format designed to amplify the excitement.

Over the weekend, each day will feature two races, tailored to showcase two different classes and maximize competition among the teams. On both Saturday and Sunday, Race 1 will spotlight the fast action of the Superbike, Next Gen Supersport, and Pre-Injection classes.

Each team will field two riders in these high-stakes races, which will see a total of 24 competitors take to the grid. Following Race 1, Race 2 will dive into the dynamic world of the Supertwin and CB 500 competitors, offering a different flavour of racing that combines speed and agility with expert handling. Adding to the excitement, the Junior class will feature prominently with its dedicated race each day, providing a platform for emerging talents to shine and make their mark in the racing world.

This year’s Celtic Match Races not only signal the return of a cherished tradition in motorsport but also promise a weekend filled with fierce rivalry, exceptional skill, and the electrifying camaraderie that comes from representing one country in the pursuit of glory.
