Oil cooler

Unread post by Triplebrew »

Ok got my nice new oil cooler beautifully mounted. Ordered new fittings ready to connect. Said fittings arrive and guess what....they don't fit! Too small!!

Was told the fittings are 1/2" BSP but the fittings I ordered are too small. I.e they wont screw on. Anyone know what the next bigger size is?

TIA

Tripps measure across one of the holes in the cooler. 1/2 inch BSP or NPTF is about 3/4 inch across. Come back with your measurment.

Ian it is 22.8mm (or thereabouts) so i guess a 5/8 BSP is the size?

Tripps, if the 1/2 fittings you have bottom out, wobble a bit the chances are the oil cooler could have metric threads.
If you have a hydraulic hose/fitting supplier by you take it along to them & they will identify the threads for you

It looks like the threads are 5/8" BSP, the o/d of 5/8" is .902" which is 22.91mm.
check the pitch to make sure, it should be 0.0714" ie. 14 TPI.

I'd be very surprised if the threads are 5/8,
5/8 BSP is is not the norm in industry, I may be wrong but tripps say's it is a new cooler so as I say, I'd be very surprised.

I have just ordered a pair of 5/8" fittings so will know for sure by the end of the week. As you say not the norm but has anything involving our oufit been the norm? :)

5/8" bsp never heard such a load of rot could be 3/4 bsp or one of those silly hydraulic or american threads ian was on about

Well, I'm man enough to say I was wrong, in my defence, I didn't see the oil cooler
being nosey tripps, where did you get the cooler from & what is it off, if anything? 5/8 BSP is very uncommon, Goodridge do sell the odd fitting though. Get them temperature strips put on, if you need any more let me know.

Hi Ian, Came from e-bay from a guy in Leicester. Looks to be brand new and un used. Will be fitting the temp strips don't worry. And a pressure gauge too!
