We usually go (with a Merc Sprinter) at either 8.45am arriving at Caen 3.00pm (local time) or 3.15pm arriving at Caen 9.30pm (local time). The house is another hour by road. There is an overnight ferry leaving 11.15pm arriving 7.15am (local time).

Don't know. Sounds like a great event but would be a long way to go if it all goes a bit wrong. How far from the ferry port is it? The shorter the crossing the better!

I've had an email this morning asking to publicise the event so I've a feeling they're not closing entries just yet.
