Help - Oil return
Can anyone shed light on a new problem we are having? Thanks to a new oil tank by MR Equipe it seems our big end woes are sorted. However we now have a problem with oil returning from the sump to the oil tank. This only seems to happen under 'race' conditions i.e at high rpm amd with a warm / hot motor. When we run the motor stationary all is fine. When out racing over the course of a few laps ( only 4 at Lydden on Sunday
) the catch bottle from the engine breather is filled and oil pressure has dropped off a bit. On checking the oil tank the level is low too. One suggestion ahs been that the oil cooler is causing a slowing of the returning oil as the flow speeds up as the revs increase. Will be looking at going to Mallory in the next month and will 'remove' the cooler from the circuit and see what happens. Any ideas most welcome. Thanks

oil.....
Trips,
Get that stupid thin pissy oil out of it that you have changed to for this eason and use the same oil you was on last season...
It might be ok for a solo mate but just ask Mr Webster what he would do.....????
For me that would be my first job to do...

Hi Mike, The oil cooler is in the return line from the sump to the tank. A pipe runs from the sump to the oil cooler with a small tee for the rocker feed. A pipe then runs from the cooler to the tank. Not sure about a leak down test - will ask one of the technicians at work.

This is true however Triumph / BSA deemed it needed for road use and every solo I have ever looked at has one so I kinda guess it is a must have. We have just fitted a larger one than standard as the old one was tired and it seemed a logical thing to do. Maybe this is the problem :smt102diddles - hi triplebrew your races are only 10 to 20 miles long max so why do you want an oil cooler ?
Don't think so as it is very small bore.matt - is the t piece taking to much oil

Tripps, as matt says, is the tee taking too much oil? The tee off pipe for the rocker feed needs to be a small bore compared to the main return line. The tee branch needs to be as close to the engine as possible.
The rocker feed takes very little oil as it has to force it's way past the rocker shaft & rockers.

Ian I dont think that the T piece is an issue. The pipe from it to the rockers is very small bore.
