One for Ianw I think or Jim or RP??
I have a couple of pics from the 1966 Sidecar TT ... Anyone know who they are or better still does anyone have a race programme from 66 they could have a look at and let me know make of outfit, drivers and passengers...
14 looks to be a BM
Who rode number 50 that year too???
Thanks in advance
14= Colin Seeley and Wally Rawlings, finished 5th, while Derek RumbleSnr is 77, last numerically of the starters, he came 25th. Obviously in trouble is no 50, Mick Boddice and dave Loach who retired. DR's passenger is not listed in the programme.
As to where, I first thought it was up from Hillberry getting ready for the left-hander at Cronk-ny-Mona but the sloping hillside isn't right, then I reckoned coming up from the Gooseneck - the hillside is right but not that building but then again farm buildings there 40 years ago might not be now. There's a fair few people watching so you'd think it was near a reasonable parking spot. Anyone else any thoughts?
Further thoughts on where these photos were taken. Couldn't see Creg to Brandish being the place as the land on the other side of the hedge doesn't slope upward there. So, asked the lads today at the TTSC meeting. A certain tt winner with more sidecar TT's behind him than anyone else took one look and said 'going on to the Cronk-y-Voddy straight' and as to Rumble's passenger 'getting ready' he said 'ignore that, Wally Rawlings isn't so there can't be a corner coming up - Colin Seeley would be going faster!' This opinion as to where was backed up by others! As a manxman I should know these things but I don't know the lie of the land there. If I'm not convinced I'll take these photos over next year and walk the course!
Thanks for that Illi!! I disagreed with the pair on Sunday saying you'd never get that many people at the top of Creg Willy's Hill but going up from the Gooseneck you got then, and still do, loads of spectators because they can park on the back road to the Gooseneck. I'll have a good look round the course next year for farm buildings!
