Re: pictures from Spa,
Konig. Rare in a sidecar and even rarer in a solo. What an incredible noise! 500cc 4 cylinder 2 smoke. (came form a jet ski I think).

Re: pictures from Spa,
It looks like a Kim Newcombe replica Konig. They also made the motors in 680cc and 750cc too. They were definately developed from a marine engine, I believe they raced hydrofoils using various Konig motors. There were apparently a lot of them about in the 1970's in sidecar racing before the TZ's took over. There's a bit more information and a few pictures on this site:

Re: pictures from Spa,
I could tell you loads of stuff about the Konigs sometime
I'm impressed gentlemen
They were from watersports where the porous barrels weren't a problem, but in sidecars they gave a lot of trouble. I think it might have been Mike Smith or Roger Keen who I was talking to about the trouble with getting them to stop leaking through.
In that pic I think I see a vacuum pump and I can tell you a couple of good stories about them too - like running 2 on an ADM thing with one back to front and spending all weekend at croft with an odd misfire till we found out what it was..

Re: pictures from Spa,
There were 2 outfits and 1 solo racing at Chimay this year. Belgium is the only place I have seen them.

Re: pictures from Spa,
Does anyone know of any Konig motors / parts lying about doing nothing under benches etc ? There were a good few back in the day, but none seem to be about now.

Re: pictures from Spa,
If you do find any Konig parts lying under a bench, take my advice and leave them there.
Anyway you couldn't run one these days because you can't buy Goofy Juice anymore to keep the plugs clean.

I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

Re: pictures from Spa,
I have one lying about under a bench, in fact we have still got the whole outfit. The motors were either C class 500 or D class 680 for hydroplanes. In the eighties I also bought some other engines & parts which were ex George O'Dell, one of which we still have. Unfortunately they were not exactly trouble free and in exchange for services rendered most of our other motors ended up with Doug Willey (ex hydroplane champion and water speed record holder) who also serviced the engines for Kim Newcombe and George. Sadly, Doug died a couple of years ago, I am sure he would have had a large stock of Konigs.Big Tim wrote:Does anyone know of any Konig motors / parts lying about doing nothing under benches etc ? Also, I think Team Pastit have got a Konig, and Tony Wakefield was out on the British Magnum at Mallory in July, the design of which is based on the Konig.

Re: pictures from Spa,
My father is building a replica of the Konig outfit he raced in the 1970's, to race next season, and is keen to source and buy any Konig engines or parts anyone may have for sale. Contact Howard Langham anytime (send me a P.M. for contact details). Thanks.
