Re: The Greatest Solo Rider ever?
I was devastated when he died. He seemed so much like any of us, in a way... quiet, unassuming, approachable, popular etc. I had never been to a race meeting outside Scotland, but we had planned to go and see him race, and he was killed in such a stupid way... no chance..
However, I would dispute the greatest ever title... there are too many imponderables... didn't win a TT... Hasn't Vale been as good... Bob Mac... etc etc... horses for courses and riders for their era. I don't think there is on "greatest ever" There are so many utterly amazing riders.
If they had lived Garry Hislop and Lee Pullen would have joined those ranks...

It was a sad loss, recall Mallory Race of The Year, he sat on the grid instead of going on the warm up lap, won the race.
