It's hard to think that it is 45 years since this tragic event; I remember the sombre atmosphere in the paddock afterwards, and the feeling of disbelief.

I was at Snetterton that weekend, like many others in the clubhouse for a fun evening. About half past seven news filtered through (slowly due no mobile phones etc) that Fritz had been killed and John badly injured at Mallory. Once word had gone round in a few minutes the bar began to empty, folk were even leaving half empty glasses behind and drifting back to their vans etc. A very quiet and sombre lay heavily over the paddock, many had an early night as the almost unbelievable had happened.

I was passengering for Roy Pike in that fateful race, having been out on my 125 Bultaco before.
As I remember Fritz put himself in more danger by passing the crews in front including Colin Seeley
and hitting the hairpin bank head on, rather than throwing it sideways to loose momentum.
He died as he lived..a gentleman

Is there any way to magnify the articles, because I can't read them as they are?
