Re: 1963 sidecar tt
Just watched this for the zillionth time, Scheidegger in particular quite wonderful. I'm in the crowd at the exit of Braddan Bridge. A shilling or perhaps two (5p or 10p) for the morning. In the afternoon, we'd go further along the road to a 'kink' between BB and Union Mills. This was the norm for Monday of race week from '63 through till '66 - sidecar racewinners being Camathias, Deubel, Deubel again and Scheidegger. I was 20 before I watched a meeting in the UK, but this more than made up for it!

At 1m 10sec in this film, it shows no 45, Alwyn Maltby from York, his passenger is Ted Fenwick also from York.
By this time Ted was in his 13th season of racing, having started on solos in 1952, he and Alwyn made all there own frames and most other components.
Ted combined passengering and solo riding and passengered for some top names including Max Deubel.
In the late 1960s Alwyn emigrated and Ted took over riding the outfit, he continued to drive outfits untill the mid 1970s,( he sold the last outfit he built to Rod Bellas who started his racing career on it.) Ted continued to race solo regularly and passenger occasionally, his last race as a passenger was with me in 1994.
His solo racing continues and he is ready for the start of this season,he competes at most Scarborough and Aintree meetings, and races every year at the pre TT classic in Castletown. He has won the 250 race at this meeting several times , the last was in 2011 he was 2nd the following year, and finished 4th last year (an amazing achievement for someone in his mid 80s)
He is recognised by many as one of the most stylish riders competing today, and his long racing career must be some sort of record. He is a most unassuming man, always ready to help anyone with his vast experience of racing. I hope 2014 continues to be as successful and enjoyable for him .
