I'd just like to thank everyone who supported the Derby Phoenix meeting this weekend at Cadwell Park.
The success of this event should now ensure the survival of this great club going forwards.
Of special note:- Dave Tibbles is doing a great job with the Pre-Injection / Post Classic class and I think it has a very bright future. When you meet him face to face, his enthusiasm for the project is very clear and the teams all seem to be right behind him. It may have been a slow burn in its first season, but I spoke to two other former sidecar drivers at the weekend who had come along just to take a look and went away ready to start preparing their bikes for next season. I'm sure there are many more out there who will also join in soon.
Sorry to mention the burn, as Dave himself had a bit of misfortune with a burn of his own when his outfit caught fire on the approach to the chicane. Even after that, his smile was still in place and that is a sure sign of a true sportsman.
The club are now looking more confidently at putting on a stand-alone calendar of events for next season and sidecars will feature strongly in those plans. So before you commit to anything else next year, wait to take a look at what they have planned for you.
Thanks again for your support.

Thank you Dave and your team and all the DP folk and marshals.
It really was a great meeting. Very well run and a great atmosphere. Everyone involved in running the event that I spoke to could not have been more helpful or friendly.
I for one hope to see the return of sidecars on a regular basis with DP. Perhaps they will run their own PI class?
I'd also like to echo what you said Dave about Tibs. For me, he is the epitome of what we all call the sidecar family. He will do anything he can to help people, is always there for a chat and a laugh and goes out and races without moaning about this that or the other. Lost of people could learn a thing or two from him. Obviously not about hats or shorts though
I'd personally like to thank him on here for the help he gave me this weekend.
Like the BEARs, I think the pre-injection class has a future and will go from strength to strength over the next few years, thanks to Tibs and his efforts.
John.

Re: Derby Phoenix Cadwell Park - Thank You
Kerry and I have really enjoyed the PI Championship. Although running a 19 year old bike on very limited funds, has seen some challenges with Machine Examination(!), looking back over the season, we have finished every race we started (I think). I wasn't ready for the first round at Oulton Park, and with Aintree being Kerry's first ever race after only a few laps at the Aintree practice day, we have struggled for pace. It was a great pity that I cracked a rib and had to cancel East Fortune, as I was really looking forward to going to Scotland.
When Tibbs was working on Gary Wilson's bike on Saturday evening, he mentioned doing bike rallies in the late 70s, and it turns out that his brother-in-law was one of my greatest friends nearly forty years ago, and we have other friends in common. What a surprise!
By the way, it seems Gaz hasn't picked up on this thread, but when he does, I am sure he will add his thanks. He remarked on Sunday morning that he couldn't believe Dave was willing to spend 5 hours working on the bike belonging to a bloke he hadn't met before that weekend!
Hope to finish the year with Auto 66 at Cadwell, and knock a few more seconds of our lap time if it's not too cold and/or wet!

Gaz has already said it on Facebook, and I've said it on another thread, but I don't mind saying it again. Dave Tibbles and friend were fantastic, giving their time, energy and knowledge to 2 random sidecar competitors they'd hardly met before! Tony Wheatley and Grime also mucked in and helped us get out on Sunday. The Sidecar Paddock is a truly uplifting place to be, there are some very big-hearted people out there.
