Great weather and our own championship race, a first time in many years and with two new teams father and son Gerald and Daniel Hodgson 600 Shellbourne Honda and Ian Sutcliffe with Robert Bryant Jacobs 600 Yamaha, all four are novices doing their first meeting. Also joining our grid but not as championship contesters was Wattie Brown and Brian Taylor on a Windle TZ350 with Gordon Jones with Smudge Taylor making two 350’s on the grid.
Race one with grid decisions decided by number out of the hat method saw another father son team Bruce and Ashley Moore in pole position. Rob Fisher with Rick Long Baker 720 Yamaha takes the win chased by Joe Heys and Marc Maier on Joe’s self built 600 Thundercat. The Moore family Ireson 600 Thundercat claims third, Wattie and Brian 350’s fourth, myself and Wayne Kemp with a FJ Yamaha fifth. Gordon Jones, Smudge Taylor Yamaha TZ350 motor sixth. The all ladies team Marianne Walford Kerry Hughes 600 Baker Yamaha seventh. The long wheel based Suzuki 1100 newcomers Mark Burns and Steven Winfrow eighth. The other two newcomers had mixed fortunes the Hodgson’s after two visits to the grass in the race still managed a finish but Ian Sutcliffe 600 Honda had his gearbox break on the last lap, sadly ending their days racing.
Race two
A repeat of the first except Rob Fisher wins with the fastest lap of the day for our class a 1.02 second lap. Mark Burns managed to get past the ladies this time to claim seventh and the Hodgson family retired on the last lap with an electrical problem.
Thanks to Dave Edwards and the Aintree Motorcycle club for giving us our own race, last year only five teams entered this round but with the new Preinjection class we are seeing newcomers to our sport on less costly machines this meeting we had three novice drivers and four novice passengers.
