Sorry Trips, got to disagree with you. I saw that bike with Roger Dutton on it nearly 40 years ago, the chassis by all acounts is original as Roger had it. Leaving a side the sentimental value, it is a piece of sidecar history. Where are Wakefields, Miltons, Harris's ete, etc BMW outfits from the same era?, how often do they come up for sale???? NEVER! Being cheeky, ask Mike Richards how much it would cost to build a modern replica, By the sound of it the majority of what is needed after buying it is elbow grease. There are plenty of people on here who can give help as to original " replica " parts, again Mike Richards springs to mind . If he is saying he will ship it back to Japan then that prooves the interest in it. SNAP his hand off, when the bike is back to original how Roger had it then it has got to be worth £20 - £ 30K. By the way, who made the chassis?
I would bet that not many people in the sidecar racing world knew that that bike once belonged to Roger Dutton? Done up & put back to original it will be a lasting legacy to Roger

Looking at Mike's price list something around £12,000 - £14,000 would get you a BRAND NEW rolling chaais, wheels, bodywork etc. and add a couple of grand for a motor and away you go. Allright no history but it will be reliable, safe and reliable. And who would actually race a piece of history? Being an owner of an 'original' chassis etc. I know only too well the problems that this brings. Reading what was written about pipes being left off and rust etc. I would be very worried. Perhaps if some pics are posted it won't look as bad as it sounds? Shipping out to Japan or even Europe means little as they will always pay big money for a classic outfit.

You can get a 13" Bee em brand new ready to race for under £16,000 including dry sump which is cheap racing for a new hand built machine, if it was a racing car it would be double that. but I understand the history bit I tried to buy one of my dads bikes the bloke who was selling it was in dream land . It would be nice to have it for parading and sentimental value, but every "original" classic i've worked on has major problems, from rotting tubes from the inside out to horrendous repairs done in the past.(not yours Tripps)

That is exactly the point I was trying to make - well put Mike, thanks. And as you say £16,000 for a new built BMW is a bargain - just wish I had the money

Looking at the pic it looks a lot better than you make it sound. If the chassis is sound, motor looks to be ok then what the heck go for it, but if you do please ride it and ideally race it. That is what these machines are for

it does look a lot better in the photos than it does. like i say we not sure when it was last started (about 20 years) and the engine may even be knackered. but it did push forward and seemed to turn over ok. if we cant come up with the money it would be nice if someone form the uk would buy it , at least we could go and see it ect, we would be gutted if we cant buy it and it goes to japan, it would be lost for ever. i will put some more photos on later. thanks for all your comment, it is helping us make a decission. it is only the money that is stoping us from buying it , we would love it . my dad ,my brother and myself will all try and put money in but we cant realy afford it.
