Re: Honda 836cc crmc
There's not much ability or experience required to squirt a bike down the straight's. If they are both the same spec and one is much faster than the other maybe it's the engine tuner to blame !

Sean, Brian Gray has been racing for many years and proved at Donnington that an 836cc engine is OK to set the FASTEST LAP. You could Buy a bigger Engine but you cannot BUY Experience.

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
It doesn't seem unreasonable that if the Honda has to be the size it was during the Period, then why shouldn't everything else be the same as has been said many times on here, during the period there were no 1000/1200 Beemers,Imps, etc,

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
Dennis the problem is in a straight line it does not take experience to squirt a bike in a straight line. And Peter you got the nail on the head honda 900 was used in the period so why can't it be used? It don't make sense???? 4 honda 900 outfits were used as far as I'm aware so far!

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
well, to me it seems that mr. Gray has got his 836cc Honda better prepared/tuned than mr. Reeves has his...no need for a rule change...get a good engine prep/tuner or have a friendly talk with mr. Gray?

If you are both disappointed with your choice of motors there is a simple solution - use different ones!

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
I think you would be better off chatting with Ian Johnson, all the points raised have all been answered before.

Im not quite seeing the logic???xxseanxx35 wrote:Dad spoke with Brian today he also wants something sorted because he is destroying motors

The CB750 stretched to 836 to race in a sidecar is destroying motors, so why would stretching it more to 900cc help to prevent this when the general basis of the engine is still the CB 750 and will still be raced as hard??
Is this not the Weslake saga all over again, the CRMC wouldnt allow Weslakes in originally because they thought they would run away with things yet when they did come in they seemed to shart (not sure if thats considered a naughty word??) themselves with excitment as soon as they even looked at a track

Shame because you can't beat the sound or appearance of the Weslake (in my opinion) but is the reliabilty of an 836 Honda just one of its weaknesses similar to a Weslake?? Just like weight is for an Imp or Gearboxes seem to be on a Triple, Drive shaft/Gearing Ratios for a BM etc????
I think this year the P3 sidecar class has been the most entertaining its been for a few years with a number of different crews on a number of different machines and capacities taking the spoils. A good recipe for a successful race series if you ask me, but if the arguement is in the best interest of the class things will happen so talking to Ian Johnson would be the best place to start.
Now where did i put my 1301 cc Konig engined rear exit chassis photo to send to Ian for CRMC eligability

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
I raced a Windle Honda back in the 70s and had no trouble with the engine, it was one of the most reliable bikes I ever had. If the things are flying apart then they are not put together correctly.
I took the shell off my racing snail thinking it would make him faster.
It just made him more sluggish.

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
Hi Keith ours is reliable we only had one blow up and that was in Chimay in 40 degree heat which is understandable! Brian is destroying engines. What size was your windle honda?

Re: Honda 836cc crmc
Do what they did in the period. if one make of engine was faster than the one you are using and you wanted to win you changed engines to that one that was winning. I know you are going to say but I want to use a Honda, but if you want to win that much you have not a lot of choice under the rules as they are. All that happens with one make of engine getting bigger going faster is the others make there's bigger and faster untill they all go pop.

My point exactly Richard. What is the point of brand loyalty when there are no new products permissible? Either you want to race or you want to win - simples.

And there's me thinking we are in it to enjoy ourselves, think we are all a bit too old to be world champions.

Enjoy ourselves, that's what I meant about wanting to race rather than win
