Tracing age of a Windle outfit

Unread post by Dan »

Trying to trace the age of a Windle outfit for current owner Marlène Couillard in France. The outfit was owned by Team Past It, Robin & Annette Daykin, from 2006 to 2009 before they sold it to Christian & Domenique Boar from Bordeaux who have now sold it to Marlène. It is still running in Team Past It livery as it has been since Robin & Annette sold it

Robin & Annette bought the outfit from Thomas & Rupert Guest, who some might remember as 'the Army Boys' as they were both serving soldiers and sponsored by the Army. They entered the 2005 TT with the Windle but had two DNFs.

Unfortunately neither Annette nor myself can remember who had the outfit before the Guests or know how to contact the brothers to ask if they can help with the age or history

If anyone can help with information about the outfit's age or previous owners it would be appreciated.

Hi Dan, hope your well?
It's a shame Terry never numbered his outfits like Colin Jacobs did.
Terry built me my first outfit the late end of 1974, must have been one of the earliest one's he made after splitting with John Crick.
I still have all the reciepts for the bike with the dreaded VAT on them, a breakdown of every major individual part & individually priced.
Can you post any pics with the fairings off, there must be some "Team Past it" pics on steves place here with the fairings off ,someone might be able to identify it from them. I know a lot of his his bikes had subtle differences.

Thanks for asking Ian, I am not too bad after nearly three weeks of soaking up the sun at an unusually dry and sunny TT 8-) , even though the low number of accepted sidecar entries  left a bit to be desired. But those that did manage to get a run put on a good show :notworthy: .

Robin was fairly keen on keeping records of his outfits and racing and Annette will try to turn up something on the Windle from these. Although we have loads of photos of the later Ireson, with and without fairings, photos of the naked Windle are not as forthcoming. I have turned up two which were taken at Anglesey in 2008 but don't know if they will be any use in identifying the age of the chassis.

I thought you might have got rid of all your old receipts by now so you aren't reminded about how much of your future pension fund was invested in racing instead of the stock market   . You have a rich fund of memories though

Thanks Dan
Yes, the size of the sidecar grids in general are very worrying.
That swing arm & rear end puts the bike in the 80's.
I'd say it is possibly a converted 350. I have a pic of the first 350 chassis Terry built for Bill Hodgkins, I think 1984???
The rear end in your pics is identical to the 350 chassis of Bill Hodgkins bike.
Where's me anorak?!

Thanks Ian, I think you have more than one anorak to choose from ;) .

I had wondered along the lines of the possibility of it being a converted 350 chassis with having the double sided swinging arm and its resemblance, to some extent, to my own converted Derbyshire chassis, which was originally a 1985 creation.

If anyone else can come up with any info or suggestions it would be much appreciated.
