NOSTALGIA IN MOTION: DON’T MISS THE CLASSIC SIDECAR PARADE LAP
From TT Press Office
A celebration of sidecar racing’s golden era will take to the Mountain Course at the 2025 Classic TT, as an 18-strong line-up of iconic machines return to the Isle of Man for the Classic Sidecar Parade Lap.
Taking place on Wednesday 27th August, this one-lap showcase promises a full sensory throwback to the sights, sounds, and smells of sidecar racing from the 1960s through to the 1980s.
From the crackle of two-strokes to the deep rumble of four-stroke BMWs, the parade brings together a truly unique mix of machines – two, three, and four-cylinder layouts, each steeped in history. Expect the unmistakable whiff of Castrol R, the clatter of spoked wheels down Bray Hill, and the sight of era-defining designs tackling the Mountain Course once more.
LINE-UP HIGHLIGHTS
1975 TR 750 Suzuki – Dave Molyneux / Dan Sayle
The same motor that carried John Williams to victory in the 1976 TT, this bike’s chassis is a faithful replica of an early 1970s design. Molyneux and Sayle’s combined TT pedigree makes this a must-see pairing.
1982 Windle TZ 700 Yamaha (Ham Yam) – Greg Noble / Rob Sztajnert
The very machine that Steve Abbott and Shaun Smith piloted to Sidecar TT victory in 1984. A true piece of TT-winning history.
1982 Forddunn TZ 750 Yamaha – Ryan Crowe / Callum Crowe
Built and raced by Bruce Forddunn, this bike dominated the British Sidecar Championship in 1982 and 1983. Piloted by current lap record holders Ryan and Crowe.
1962 500 BSA Goldstar – Derek Brindley / Paul Huchinson
A Bulmer Chassis BSA Goldstar with a family story. Derek’s father sourced unofficial factory motors from BSA’s head tuner, and in 1962, the pair finished 8th, the only Goldie to score World Championship points that year. After a crash in 1963 at the Bungalow, the bike and riders were badly damaged, but the machine survives today in the Isle of Man Motor Museum.
1978 500 TZ Schmidt Yamaha – Mike Richards / Trevor Groves
With direct links to 8-time World Champion Rolf Biland, this chassis was part of Biland’s 1977 TT debut where he finished 2nd, and later competed in late-70s Grand Prix racing.
750 MRE BMW – Mike Cookson / Kenny Cole & Alan Warner / Tom Dawkins
Authentic replicas of the late 60s and early 70s BMW outfits, complete with 16-inch spoked wheels and the robust 750 BMW engine.
Langham TZ 350 – Gary Gibson / Daryl Gibson
Shelbourn TZ 350 – Mick Haith / Steve Haith
Mid-80s chassis housing 1970s TZ 350 motors, representing the evolution of the F2 class from a cost-effective alternative to the open class, which ultimately has evolved into the dominant specification used at the TT today.
