FIM Sidecar World Championship – Le Mans poised for 2021 season opener

June 11-12

After what has seemed an eternity, the FIM Sidecar World Championship explodes into life at Le Mans alongside the FIM EWC World Endurance Championship.
With Covid-19 protocols strictly in place at the circuit, the presence of spectators is not allowed at this the first round, but with the vaccine programmes being rolled out across Europe, hopes are high for a resumption of normal business at the earliest opportunity. Support has been strong for Le Mans, with twenty crews from six nations on the entry list.

They hold an impressive 28 point advantage at the top of the A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship following the second round at Donington Park.

There were spectacular double wins in both the Super F2 and F2 Cup classes at the second round of the A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship. Lee Crawford / Scott Hardie (LCR Suzuki) continued their dominant form, taking pole, two wins and the Super F2 lap record, and were presented with the prestigious “Bill Boddice Trophy” for their performance in race one. Meanwhile, Harry Payne / Emmanunnelle Clement (GPF2 Yamaha) were runaway winners in the F2 Cup, taking the class lap record – which had stood for exactly a decade!

Classics at Oliver’s Mount, entries close 21st May

From Dan

When it was announced that classic sidecars would be included at the Barry Sheene meeting at Oliver’s Mount on 26/27 June there was, apparently, a fair bit of interest shown but as of 14 May no entries have been received by the organisers.

Entries close on 21 May so if anybody wants to race at this iconic circuit they need to get their entries in without delay or there is a real risk that the sidecar class could be abandoned in favour of more solo races.

Two races at Oulton Park to get the British Championship season under way, June 25-27

The weekend of June 25-27 sees Oulton Park host the opening round of 2021 as per the published schedule.

In previous years, the constraints placed on the circuit by reduced track time have meant that the sidecars have been allocated just the one race. This has been unpopular, but also recognised as unavoidable.

Roger Body has been lobbying hard over this particular sticking point and his efforts have finally paid off.

The Oulton Park opener will now feature two sidecar races, thereby getting the season away to a meaningful haul of points for the championship hopefuls. This is due solely to Roger’s efforts and a large degree of cooperation from Stuart Higgs and the MSVR organisation.

The 2021 A.C.U. / F.S.R.A. British F2 Sidecar Championship Incorporating The F2 Cup Round Two – Donington Park – N.G.R.R.C.

Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th May

The opening round of the A.C.U. / F.S.RA. British F2 Sidecar Championship was held at Brands Hatch over the weekend of the 17th and 18th April. The unseasonably warm weather was matched by the red hot pace at the front of the field, where Lee Crawford / Scott Hardie (LCR Suzuki) took pole, a double win and equalled the long standing lap record.

The Super F2 podium was completed on both occasions by runners-up Sean Hegarty / James Neave (Baker Honda) and Steve and Matty Ramsden (LCR Honda). Quite a talking point was the brace of fourth places taken by former champions Gary Horspole / Kenny Cole (Shelbourne Honda), proving older carburetted outfits are still more than capable in the right hands. These teams have firmly established themselves at the top of the table, and have a very solid foundation on which to base their championship aspirations going forward.

The 2021 F.S.R.A. Pre-Injection Sidecar Championship

Round 2 Mallory Park May 3rd  2021

Report —- Dave Tibbles

Photos —- Neil Kirkby

A wet Mallory did not dampen the spirits of the Pre-injection teams participating in the FSRA Wintec Championship bank holiday Monday meeting. With a full grid of sidecars with over two thirds of the grid being Pre-injection teams it was two wins out of two for both Rob Fisher/Sarah Stokoe F2 class and Simon Horton/Jordon Forrest in the F1 class. In the rain and windy conditions Fisher with new passenger Sarah Stokoe on his Baker 600 Yamaha not only won the Pre-injection F2 class but took the chequered flag in front of the more modern machined club racers in both races.
